Yahoo Draws 15.2M Unique Viewers For Jaguars-Bills

Oct 26, 2015 12:45 PM

Yahoo's stream of Sunday's game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills had 15.2 million unique viewers.

"It's been a great opportunity to partner with the NFL and deliver a truly exceptional global live streaming experience for our users," said Adam Cahan, Yahoo's SVP of Product and Engineering, said in a release. "We're seeing a dramatic shift in the industry as audiences' primary video watching moves away from TV. We were thrilled to join the NFL in setting a new standard for sports programming for our users and advertisers."

Thirty-three percent of streams were from international users.

"We're a lot closer to the internet being a real, legitimate distribution platform for NFL games than we were one or two years ago," NFL executive vice president of media Brian Rolapp told The MMQB's Peter King.

"We're thrilled with the results of our initial step distributing an NFL game to a worldwide audience and with the work of our partner, Yahoo," said Hans Schroeder, Senior Vice President, Media Strategy, Business Development & Sales for the NFL. "We are incredibly excited by the fact that we took a game that would have been viewed by a relatively limited television audience in the United States and by distributing it digitally were able to attract a global audience of over 15 million viewers."

The NFL averages 17.6 million unique viewers for Thursday Night Football and 13.5 million for Monday Night Football.

Gus Bradley's Job With Jaguars Safe This Season, Next Season

Oct 26, 2015 11:38 AM

The job of Gus Bradley as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars is safe this season and likely next year as well.

"I'm told by sources informed of the Jaguars' thinking that Gus Bradley is safe, not just this season, but, barring a 1-15 type collapse that would feature a player mutiny -- essentially like the Dolphins had -- Gus Bradley will be safe for next season as well," Ian Rapoport said. "The reason why: no one with the Jaguars thought this would be just a three-year rebuilding process.

"Bradley may have taken over the worst roster in the NFL, so they are going to exhibit patience with him and with their regime. They fixed the offense this year, expect them to focus on the defense next year."

Bradley was hired by the Jaguars in 2013 after several seasons as defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

Jaguars Were Unaware Of Bernard Pierce's Concussion

Oct 13, 2015 12:36 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars were unable to determine Bernard Pierce suffered a concussion in Week 5.

Pierce could have very well have been experiencing concussion symptoms during the play in which he blocked a Bucs player instead of making the tackle in punt coverage.

Jaguars medical personnel were unaware that he was experiencing concussion symptoms until Pierce told them about an hour after the game.

"There was no in-game information provided to the team that indicated these symptoms," Jaguars spokesman Tad Dickman said.

After being examined, Pierce was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol. The Jaguars studied the game film on Monday and were unable to determine if Pierce suffered the concussion on a single play or if it was the result of multiple blows to the head.
