Bucs Would Have Picked Jonathan Taylor If Tristan Wirfs Was Off Board

Nov 28, 2021 8:01 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely would have selected Jonathan Taylor at No. 14 had Tristan Wires been selected before their turn in 2020.

Tampa Bay traded up from No. 14 to the San Francisco 49ers at No. 13 to select Wirfs.

"I loved him," Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians told reporters this past week about Taylor. "He could do it all, and it was just a matter of time -- playing behind that offensive line -- that he was going to be the force that he is."

Tampa Bay nearly had the chance to draft Taylor at No. 45, but the Indianapolis Colts selected him at No. 41. The Buccaneers instead selected Antoine Winfield Jr.

Taylor enters Sunday's game against the Buccaneers as the NFL leader in rushing yards (1,122) and touchdowns (15).

Las Vegas will be at Cleveland at 4:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 18, followed by New England at Indianapolis at 8:20 p.m.

The league also made a change to Week 13, flexing the San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks game out of the Sunday night slot in favor of the Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs matchup.

Teammates: Jonathan Taylor Should Be In MVP Conversation

Nov 22, 2021 9:08 AM

Coming off a five-touchdown performance on Sunday, a number of Indianapolis Colts believe Jonathan Taylor should be in the MVP conversation.

Taylor leads the league in touchdowns and rushing yards through 11 weeks.

"He's sending a message to the league," Nyheim Hines said. "It's been amazing watching him play. Great to watch him finish runs and make people miss. He's a complete back ... If there's any skill position [for MVP], Jonathan Taylor needs to be in it. Him and Cooper Kupp. JT is the first in line for a non-quarterback player."

Taylor has already joined LaDainian Tomlinson, Clinton Portis, and Adrian Peterson as the only players with more than 1,000 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in their first two seasons.
