Stafford Quickly Picking Up New Lions' Playbook

Nov 27, 2014 3:38 AM

Matthew Stafford is quickly learning the Detroit Lions new offensive playbook.

"He's really remarkably bright," offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said. "I've heard that he was a smart player, but the speed and ease with which he picks things up has even surprised me, and I had pretty high expectations coming in."

Stafford freely admits the offense is dense, with a heavy amount of new verbiage and an expansive playbook.

Ndamukong Suh 'Chose' Lions In Draft, Happy With Franchise

Nov 26, 2014 6:40 AM

Ndamukong Suh said on Wednesday that he's happy with the Detroit Lions.

Suh heads into the final year of his contract with a massive cap and salary number ($22 million) but the Lions and the defensive tackle haven't worked out a new deal yet.

“Why do I want to be here long-term? I think I said this from the very, very first day I got drafted: I'm here for a reason,” Suh said. “I had an opportunity — probably a lot of you guys don't know, I could have gone elsewhere when I was drafted. Had that decision in my hands. I chose not to take it."

Lions Know Eric Ebron Isn't Graham Clone Though Use Will Be Similar

Sep 3, 2014 11:24 PM

Eric Ebron wanted to make clear that the Detroit Lions aren't getting another version of Jimmy Graham.

"I don’t have no similarities to Jimmy Graham," Ebron said. "I mean, he's a different type of tight end than I am. Very possessive tight end. He’s a great tight end, but I don’t really think I have any similarities to Jimmy Graham."

But the Lions still plan on using him in a similar way as the New Orleans Saints do with Graham.

"From a skill position player, I think we've got two really good receivers in Calvin [Johnson] and Golden [Tate]. I think the tight end position, who runs like Eric does, because we have two pretty good tight ends as it is," offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said. "But he’s got a different skill set and that just adds a whole new element to your offense, a tight end that can run like that.

"That maybe you can take advantage of a little bit more easily than you can another receiver."
