Report: Panthers Ignored Risks Of Steriod Use

Nobody imagines that NFL locker rooms are drug free, but few would think that players on the best teams would be willing to risk their very lives to make it to the highest levels of the sport. That seems to be the case. According to an investigative report posted on the Charlotte Observer's Web site on Sunday, a number of Panthers used a vast quantity and tremendous variety of performance-enhancing drugs during the team's 2004 Super Bowl season.

The Carolina Panthers have restructured quarterback Jake Delhomme?s contract, according to league sources. By converting base salary into bonus money, the Panthers have freed up $2.25 million. That puts the Panthers slightly more than $6 million under the salary cap.

According to league sources, the Rams were in the process of putting together an offer for Davis on Wednesday night. Davis had previously visited the Eagles and, reportedly, passed a physical.

Panthers' Smith Sits Out Final Camp Practice

Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith sat out the final practice of training camp on Monday due to his strained left hamstring. Smith rode a stationary bike and did agility drills on the side of the field as the team practiced. He was injured on July 29, the first day of camp. "It's day-to-day. It's the same it's been," coach John Fox said. "We'll evaluate it one day at a time."
