The Cardinals have named Kurt Warner their starting quarterback heading into the 2008 season, according to Arizona Republic.
"There was a lot of opinions, from all different sources," coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "I know our staff, and I know I didn't buy into it. There was a process that started a long time ago, a lot of information to be evaluated, and it really wasn't one thing more than another. To the credit of both of the quarterbacks, it was close."
Predictably, Matt Leinart wasn't thrilled with the decision.
"He's upset," Whisenhunt said. "And that's what you want to see. I saw the competitiveness of Matt come out. And I have no doubts that when it's his turn this year to play, that he'll respond in the same way."

Whisenhunt Won't Commit To Quarterback
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt insists that he has yet to make a decision regarding which quarterback will start for the team to open the season, according to NFL.com.
"We've got some tape to look at," Whisenhunt said. "We've got to go back and evaluate all the information that we've compiled over the last six months. ... It's going to be a tough decision."
Both Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner entered the preseason knowing full well that they'd be battled for the starting role.
"We knew there was going to be a competition," Warner said. "We knew there were going to be a lot of things involved and that it was going to have to play itself out."
Whisenhunt Tabs Warner For Final Start
Cardinals' Coach Ken Whisenhunt has tabbed Kurt Warner to start the team's final preseason game on Friday night, according to Arizona Republic.
The Cardinals are going to start Warner against the Broncos because he has taken fewer preseason snaps than Matt Leinart.
"Hopefully, we'll get enough snaps in there with our first (offensive) line that we will be able to play both those guys," Whisenhunt said.
Whisenhunt: Leinart Is Still Cards' Starting QB
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt claims that Matt Leinart is still the team's starting quarterback, according to East Valley Tribune.
"It's still the same," Leinart said Monday of his status.
"Nothing has changed," coach Whisenhunt echoed, despite reports on ESPN that the team had named Kurt Warner the starter heading into the final weekend before the regular season.
Source: Cardinals To Name Warner Starting QB
Kurt Warner is expected to be named the Cardinals' starting quarterback, a team source said Sunday.
Matt Leinart's poor performance Saturday night against the Oakland Raiders probably sealed the decision.
Boldin To Cards: Trade Me
Anquan Boldin, unhappy with his contract in Arizona, badly wants out of Arizona and has asked the team to trade him, according to The East Valley Tribune.
"At the beginning of camp, I hadn?t asked for a trade. But ... recently we did," Boldin said of his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
"My whole thing is if I?m not going be treated fairly and my hard work and loyalty isn?t going to be rewarded here, then let me go somewhere where it will be rewarded," Boldin added.
"That?s how I feel, and I?ll continue to feel that way."
As recently as Tuesday, the Cardinals claimed that they would not trade Boldin.
Cardinals: We're Not Trading Boldin
Drew Rosenhaus made the first request in the spring, although Anquan Boldin denied asking for a trade. Team officials, however, confirmed that request, and sources close to the situation said Rosenhaus recently asked them again to trade Boldin or allow Rosenhaus to shop for a deal.
The Cardinals' stance remains unchanged, according to a team spokesman. They have no intention of trading Boldin and are hopeful of signing him to a contract extension.
Rosenhaus declined comment, but a source close to negotiations said Boldin is unhappy, does not talk to coach Ken Whisenhunt and wants out of Arizona.
Cardinals Will Trade Boldin In Offseason?
The Cardinals? apparent plan is to get through the 2008 season with a $2.5 million salary to Anquan Boldin and then to try to trade Boldin.
They plan to re-start negotiations with Boldin later in the season, but unless they?re prepared to pay him in the same ballpark as Fitzgerald, a deal isn?t likely. In the interim, the team won?t give Boldin and his agent Drew Rosenhaus permission to attempt to line up a suitable trade.
Cardinals Sign Linebacker Moore
The Cardinals have signed linebacker Brandon Moore just one day after he was released by San Francisco, according to The Associated Press.
Moore agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals on Tuesday.
As many as four teams expressed interest in signing Moore, who was released after the 49ers reached an agreement with free agent linebacker Takeo Spikes.
Arizona Releases Marcel Shipp
The Cardinals released running back Marcel Shipp on Monday, according to The Arizona Republic.
"The Cardinals told Marcel they were releasing him now so he would have a better chance of catching on with another team," agent Brad Blank said.
Releasing Shipp will save the Cardinals $1.75 million against this year?s salary cap.
"He?s a great team guy," Coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "To me, the one thing that I see really about Marcel is that he?s interested in team success, and he?ll do whatever it takes for that, to make sure it?s guaranteed."
"He?s a good leader. He works hard. The guys like him, and he?s a good teammate. To me, when you talk about good pros, good teammates, he?s at the top of the list on both of those."
