Dak Prescott, Cowboys Expected To Have Prolonged Extension Talks

Sep 30, 2019 10:40 AM

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are not close to agreement on a contract extension at this time and a deal is not expected to be reached in the near future.

There is, however, motivation on both sides for a deal to eventually be reached.

There hasn't been a setback on the talks as they have not moved past the preliminary stages.

Prescott isn't considering moving off his demands, especially as he continues his strong start to 2019.

Kraft Likely Overruled Brady, Belichick On Cutting Antonio Brown

Sep 27, 2019 11:12 AM

Tom Brady was reportedly upset with the New England Patriots' decision to cut Antonio Brown.

Brady publicly made the following comments to Jim Gray on Westwood One on Monday.

“I don’t make any personnel decisions," said Brady. "I don’t decide to sign players. I don’t decide to trade then. I don’t decide to release them. I don’t decide to draft them. I don’t get asked, I show up and do my job. I’m an employee like everyone else. I’m going to show this week and do the best I can do as quarterback. … Maybe one day I will be an owner and I can make all the decisions that I want.”

The Patriots' decision to cut Brown was made by Robert Kraft, a rare if not unprecedented instance in which he intervened on the football side. Bill Belichick understood the decision and accepted it, but Brown would likely still be with the Patriots if Kraft hadn't insisted upon it.

Melvin Gordon To Report To Chargers On Thursday

Sep 25, 2019 8:50 PM

Melvin Gordon plans to report to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday.

Gordon has been holding out since the start of training camp.

The Chargers stopped negotiating with Gordon on a long-term deal, which negated any advantage he might have in continuing his holdout.

Drew Rosenhaus Believes Antonio Brown Wants To Play In NFL Again

Sep 25, 2019 4:12 PM

Drew Rosenhaus believes Antonio Brown still wants to play in the NFL.

Brown announced last week that he would not return to the NFL following his release by the New England Patriots.

"I believe that Antonio wants to continue his career in the NFL," said Rosenhaus on Warren Sharp's podcast.

"I have had discussions with a few teams that are very interested in him and want to know about his future and what's going on with the NFL. Hopefully, when that is all resolved, Antonio will be able to continue his Hall of Fame career."

The NFL is investigating multiple sexual assault and sexual misconduct allegations against Brown.

Buccaneers Rework Jason Pierre-Paul's Contract

Sep 25, 2019 10:43 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jason Pierre-Paul have agreed to a reworked contract that includes reducing his compensation this season by around $3 million, according to a source.

The portion of his contract for next season was also eliminated.

Pierre-Paul suffered a neck injury in a car accident this past May.

He was placed on the non-football injury list, which means the Buccaneers were not obligated to pay him his full salary of $13.65 million.

Melvin Gordon Could Soon Report To Chargers

Melvin Gordon could report to the Los Angeles Chargers sooner rather than later, according to sources.

Gordon had previously planned to report in October. No final decisions have been made by the running back.

He must report no later than Nov. 29 to play and accrue credit for this season toward becoming a free agent in the offseason.

Gordon is scheduled to make $5.605 million in the final season of his rookie deal.

Washington Offering Brandon Scherff Extension At $13M Per Year

Sep 23, 2019 3:29 PM

Washington is attempting to sign Brandon Scherff to a long-term extension despite the absence of Trent Williams.

Scherff is Washington's right guard and was the fifth overall pick in 2015.

"From what I understand about Brandon Scherff is that the Redskins have had some contact with him, some negotiations on a potential big-time long-term extension," Rapoport said. "But they really have not gotten very much off the ground despite the Redskins offering him a contract worth more than $13 million per year, which would put him about at the top of the guard market. Those conversations are going to continue but don't be surprised if Brandon Scherff goes toward free agency and becomes the highest-paid guard in the NFL going forward next offseason."

Intimidating Texts Led Patriots To Release Antonio Brown

Sep 22, 2019 11:43 AM

The New England Patriots decided to release Antonio Brown following the report he sent intimated group text messages to an artist who accused him on unwanted sexual advances.

"That crossed the line," one source familiar with the organization's thinking told ESPN. "This was real evidence."

The Patriots are expected to withhold the $9 million signing bonus they agreed to pay Brown when he signed.

Among other factors, New England will lean on the "representation and warranty" clause in Brown's contract that specifically states: "Player represent warrants and covenance to the club that he will 1) execute in good faith and to the best of his ability all of his obligations to and for the club; 2) he does not and will not participate and is not engaged or will not engage in any conduct or activity that is illegal, unlawful or immoral. And 3) No circumstances exist that would prevent players continuing availability to the club for the duration of the contract."

Some NFL sources strongly believe the Patriots will eventually owe Brown $9 million.
