The Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed that Michael Vick will remain as the starting quarterback heading into Monday night's game against the Saints.
Vick's status has been in question since Andy Reid said about a month ago that he was the Eagles' quarterback "for now."
New Orleans has one of the worst defenses in the NFL and if Vick isn't able to produce in Week 9, the Eagles are likely to replace him with rookie Nick Foles.
Alex Smith completed 18 of his 19 pass attempts in the San Francisco 49ers' 24-3 win at the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.
Michael Crabtree accounted for 61 of the 49ers' 107 yards after the catch, according to ESPN Stats & Information. That 107-yard figure was the second highest for a 49ers team over the past five seasons.
Jonathan Dwyer had 107 yards rushing in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 27-12 win over the Redskins.
Dwyer has produced two 100-yard performances in two starts and three in 13 NFL games.
Dwyer is averaging 6.7 yards per carry in his two starts.
Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) and Isaac Redman (ankle) have been sidelined the past two weeks.
"He's answered the call and taken advantage of opportunity," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "That's what we expect from all of our young people. He did the job today, but obviously, I read his name here when I talked about the list of injuries. So, I'm not going to speak too soon on that. We'll check the totality of all of the people involved and the healthy guys get the opportunities next week."
Dwyer has an excellent combination of power and quickness.
Andy Reid is considering making a change for the Philadelphia Eagles at quarterback.
The Eagles lost to the Falcons on Sunday, with Michael Vick going 21-for-35 for 191 yards and a touchdown. Vick didn't turn the ball over in the game.
Nick Foles would start for the Eagles if Vick sits.
"Whatever decision Coach makes, I support it," Vick said. "The thing I know is, I'm giving it everything I've got out there when I step on the field. Deep down, as long as I know I'm doing that, giving it everything, that's all I can ask out of myself."
The Eagles now have a 3-4 record on the season.
NFL kickers are attempting field goals from deeper and deeper each season.
“Guys certainly are making some big kicks, some long kicks,” Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham said. “Just about anybody in the league, from 60 (yards), you have a chance to make a field goal.”
Kickers routinely hit 50-yard field goals, which were a rarity in previous generations.
Field goal accuracy has increased five percent since last season.
NFL kickers are converting at an 87.7 percent rate (370 of 422), up from 82.9 percent (838 of 1011) in 2011.
“I think kickers are more athletic than they have ever been,” NFL Network analyst Charles Davis said. “If you were bored and went through all the media guides and checked on the background of the kickers now, I think you would find all of them were very good athletes in high school.”
The New England Patriots are doing a better job of protecting Tom Brady over the past two games.
Josh McDaniels has made the adjustment of keeping more blockers in on passing downs, including Rob Gronkowski.
The Rams are tied for fifth in the NFL with 21 sacks.
The Cleveland Browns are a significantly better team against the pass with Joe Haden in the lineup.
The Browns allowed quarterbacks to complete 66.4 percent of their passes during Haden's four-game suspension.
With Haden, the Browns are holding quarterbacks to a 58 percent completion rate with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Haden has intercepted two passes and broken up four throws.
The New York Giants have forced at least three turnovers in their past three games.
If the Giants have three takeaways against the Cowboys, it will be the longest streak of three-plus takeaways since the Falcons in 2010.
The Minnesota Vikings will keep Christian Ponder as their starting quarterback.
"We have complete confidence he's going to do a good job," said Leslie Frazier.
