Henry Still Optimistic About Avoiding Suspension

Sep 13, 2014 6:06 PM

Like his team, Travis Henry is waiting to hear from the NFL about his future. "I haven't heard anything," an upbeat Henry said Monday. "To me, no news is good news. I think the NFL is really looking at the case, and I appreciate it." Henry's appeal of a pending one-year NFL suspension was heard Nov. 16 in Phoenix. Henry and the Broncos originally expected a decision last week. If no decision is handed down today, Henry would likely be with the Broncos at least another week because the NFL usually doesn't make moves on players once the work week begins in earnest. If Henry remains with the Broncos, he said he "definitely" expects to play Sunday at Oakland. He has missed the past three games with a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Henry said he won't need surgery. "They said it would be about a four-week injury, and we're on week four," said Henry, who did not accompany the team to Chicago last weekend because he had the stomach flu. "I've got to get back on the field. I will definitely be ready this week."

Hearing, Injury Could Keep Henry Out

Nov 8, 2014 1:15 PM

Travis Henry may have to wear a knee brace if he wants to suit up Monday against his former team, the Tennessee Titans. "I'll wear a brace for practice," Henry said Thursday. "But I ain't going to wear it in no game." Henry had hoped his knee would be further along by now. He did practice on a limited basis Thursday, running some drills with the scout team and stepping in on offense for a few plays. In the meantime, he has more pressing concerns. Henry is trying to keep the league from suspending him over the results of a drug test earlier this season. He'll present his case to the NFL in Phoenix on Friday. "It's been going on for so long," Henry said. "It's like you're ready to know what's going to happen."

NFL Reinstates Ricky Williams

Nov 9, 2014 11:20 PM

Ricky Williams' suspension ended after more than 18 months Wednesday when he was reinstated by the NFL. Still unclear is whether the Miami Dolphins want him back. The 2002 league rushing champion, who has played in only 12 games since the start of the 2004 season, was in the Canadian Football League last season and applied for reinstatement Oct. 1. He was suspended last year after violating the league's drug policy for the fourth time and tested positive again for marijuana in April, delaying his return through the first half of this season. Williams remains under contract with the Dolphins. But first-year coach Cam Cameron, whose team is 0-9, has given no indication he wants Williams. The Dolphins had no immediate comment on Williams' reinstatement.

Union To Appeal Ruling That Pacman Must Sit For Year

Oct 6, 2014 6:31 PM

The NFL Players Association is appealing commissioner Roger Goodell's decision not to reduce the season-long suspension of Titans' cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones. The union wants a hearing as soon as possible. In a statement posted on its Web site, the union said it appealed Goodell's decision in a letter dated Nov. 8 -- two days after the commissioner notified Jones that the cornerback must serve out the entire suspension handed down originally in April. The union said Goodell met with Jones, his representatives and an attorney from the NFLPA on Nov. 2 to consider leniency. The statement concludes with saying a hearing will be held in New York "within the next several weeks."

Report: Some Titans Would Welcome Pacman Back

Oct 6, 2014 6:17 PM

Although Adam "Pacman" Jones won't return to the Tennessee Titans this season, some of his teammates would welcome him back if his suspension were shortened. "I would like him back," linebacker Keith Bulluck told The Tennessean on Wednesday. "How many others feel that way? You know what? I don't know. The thing with 53 men is we are all after the same thing on Sundays and during the week when we practice. That is the only time we are a team, and once you separate the game from it, then it becomes more individuals and personal opinions." "If you don't know Pac, then you might not want him. If you think he is some kind of way, you might not want him. It's really a personal preference, I guess," Bulluck said. Running back LenDale White told The Tennessean that he thinks "53 of 53" Titans' players would want Jones back.

Titans' Henry Appeals Four-Game Suspension

Oct 30, 2014 11:11 AM

Tennessee rookie running back Chris Henry appealed his four-game suspension Wednesday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, keeping him available for the Titans with LenDale White and Chris Brown both injured. Henry officially was notified last weekend he tested positive for a substance added to the league's banned list within the past year, and he had five days to appeal or accept the suspension. He played in the Titans' 20-7 win against Carolina last weekend and practiced Wednesday. White sat out practice with what he called a sore toe, but Brown practiced in his first full session since spraining his left ankle in the second quarter of a 13-10 loss Oct. 14 at Tampa Bay. "It's always somewhat frustrating when you're dealing with a situation like this," Henry said. "But we'll get through it and take it day by day."

Ricky's Agent Optimistic About Return

Nov 9, 2014 11:40 PM

The agent for suspended Dolphins' running back Ricky Williams expects the NFL to rule "any day" on his application for reinstatement. There were rumblings over the weekend that the league would not let Williams play this season, but agent Leigh Steinberg said he and his client are optimistic. Williams is serving a suspension that dates from April 2006, when he violated the NFL substance-abuse policy for the fourth time. He subsequently failed a drug test during his treatment.
