Mark Walton Charged With Battery Of Pregnant Woman, Released By Miami

Nov 19, 2019 12:05 PM

Mark Walton has been released by the Miami Dolphins after they were made aware of a police matter involving him.

Walton has been charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman. Walton is accused of pushing her into a wall and punching her several times in her face and head. The woman is five weeks pregnant and Walton is the father.

Walton was through two games of a four-game league suspension for violating the NFL conduct and substance abuse policy relating to his three offseason arrests between January and March. He was released by the Cincinnati Bengals after these incidents, and the Dolphins gave him another chance, signing him in May.

Marty Mornhingweg Denies Wanting To Move Lamar Jackson To WR

Nov 19, 2019 11:46 AM

Marty Mornhingweg has denied responding to the Baltimore Ravens' selection of Lamar Jackson by asking "When are we moving him to wide receiver?"

Michael Lombardi relayed the story on a recent episode of his podcast.

Mornhinweg is no longer employed by the Ravens with Greg Roman guiding Jackson to a potential MVP season.

“That didn’t happen,” Mornhinweg said. “Never said that. My thoughts before the draft, and even more when we started working with Lamar, was that this young man was going to be a special quarterback. Very early we saw that along with all of his throwing and escape abilities, he reads the field as well as any young quarterback I ever worked with.”

John Harbaugh backed Mornhinweg’s version of events.

“Marty was excited from the beginning to coach Lamar and was instrumental in helping him progress through his rookie season,” Harbaugh said.

Rob Gronkowski Plans To Stay Retired With 10 Days Until 2019 Deadline

Nov 19, 2019 11:05 AM

Rob Gronkowski said on Tuesday that he still has no plans to return to the NFL this season.

“I wouldn’t say ‘never coming back,'” Gronkowski said. “I’m 30 years old. I’m young. I still stay fit, still watch the game whenever I can, still enjoy it. I’m feeling good, but you know, one year off could possibly be the case. Or maybe two years off, man.

“It’s always an option in the back of my head. It’s not like I’m not staying in shape and not doing anything. I’m never stressed over it.”

If Gronkowski changes his mind, he must do so no later than the last business day before Week 13, which is approximately 10 days away.

It has been previously reported that a personal plea from Tom Brady could potentially sway Gronkowski back to football. Brady is on the record as being frustrated by the current state of New England's offense.

Jets Offense Has Been Clicking Since Sam Darnold-Adam Gase Meeting

Nov 19, 2019 8:36 AM

The New York Jets have put up 68 total points in back-to-back wins, an offensive improvement that came following an important meeting.

According to Sam Darnold and Adam Gase, a meeting between the quarterback and head coach a few weeks ago played a major role in the positive steps forward.

Darnold told Gase the things he felt most comfortable doing in the offense, which Gase said "makes it easier because now you're not guessing" about what's best for the offense.

"I think it was really important for me at the time because I felt like I had a lot better understanding of the offense at that point during the season and I felt like I knew the offense well enough to go in and have a really good conversation with him about it," Darnold said. "That's really all it was. As an offense, I feel like we've been able to find our rhythm and it's been really good. Hopefully we can continue that this week."

Panthers Ownership Won't Accept Long-Term Mediocrity

Nov 19, 2019 8:32 AM

David Tepper didn't address the future of Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney, but the Carolina Panthers owner made it clear while speaking to reporters that he won't accept long-term mediocrity.

The Panthers are 5-5 after a 29-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

"Every time we have a loss, my mood is s---ty," Tepper said.

The Panthers have a 13-14 record since Tepper purchased the organization for an NFL-record $2.275 billion from former owner Jerry Richardson in 2018.

Lamar Jackson Now Favorite To Be Named MVP

Nov 19, 2019 8:28 AM

For the first time this season, Lamar Jackson is the favorite to be named the NFL's Most Valuable Player.

He is 7-5 at Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas, after entering the season at 50-1 odds.

Mark Ingram II introduced Jackson before the quarterback spoke to the media following Sunday's win over the Houston Texans.

"Now I would just like to introduce y'all to the man, the myth, the legend, the MVP front-runner ... if anybody else got something different to say about that, then come see me," the running back said.

Since Oct. 20, Jackson been the most popular pick by bettors at Caesars Sportsbook. Over the last two weeks, 54% of the money bet on DraftKings' MVP odds has been on Jackson.

Russell Wilson is the second-favorite at 2-1 at Caesars Sportsbook, followed by Aaron Rodgers (9-1) and Patrick Mahomes (10-1).

NFL Asked Kaepernick To Sign Broad Waiver, Issued Misleading Statement

Nov 18, 2019 5:12 PM

The NFL asked Colin Kaepernick to sign a waiver that was very different from the one teams typically require players to sign for a standard workout.

“The waiver that Kaepernick was asked to sign on Saturday is essentially the same one he’d have to sign to work out for a team during the season,” said the NFL in the statement.

A typical waiver is focused on injuries with no acknowledgement that "Player acknowledges that he has been made no promise of employment, and understands that his participation in the Workout does not constitute employment” and no general waiver of “any and all claims . . . caused by, arising out of, occurring during, or related directly or indirectly to the Workout, Player’s presence at the Facility, and any medical treatment or services rendered in connection with or necessitated by Player’s participation in the Workout.”

Kaepernick and the NFL have a history of litigation, which makes him signing such a restrictive waiver arguably malpractice for his attorney.

Tom Brady: Strength Of Patriots On Defense, Special Teams

Nov 18, 2019 10:45 AM

Tom Brady admitted the strength of the New England Patriots' this season is their defense and special teams, not their offense. Brady was reportedly upset with New England's decisions to release Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon. The Patriots also lost Rob Gronkowski to retirement.

Brady was asked about his frustration after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11.

“I think I’m always generally frustrated during football season,” said Brady. “I don’t think it’s very unique.”

“I was very happy we won,” Brady added, “but just wish we would play better offensively. You have to go do it. Like I said, I don’t think it’s about talking about it, it’s about doing it and trying to get the best we can out of our offense to see if we can be more productive and score more points.”

Brady said winning is the only thing that matters.

“I just think to win the game ultimately you just have to score more points than the other team,” Brady said. “That goes without saying. I don’t know what it is going to be on a particular week. We won the Super Bowl 13-3. You know, that was pretty good. We lost the Super Bowl 41-33. That wasn’t good. I don’t know how many points it is going to be. The reality is it is a team sport. It’s complementary football.

“The strength of our team is our defense and special teams,” Brady continued. “So on offense, we just have to take advantage when we get opportunities, understand where our strength lie and try to play to them. Not giving short fields, not turning the ball over, try to take advantage when we get into the red area and score touchdowns. And that’s kind of where our offense is, and that’s kind of where our team is.”
