Trai Turner, Steelers Agree To One-Year Deal

Jun 24, 2021 9:10 PM

Trai Turner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers shortly after they released David DeCastro.

The Los Angeles Chargers released Turner in March after first attempting to trade him. Turner, 28, was limited to nine games last season because of a groin injury, but he said recently he was "back at 100 percent."

Turner had no guaranteed money left on a four-year, $45 million extension he signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2017.

Turner was selected to five Pro Bowls in his first six NFL seasons.

Steelers Can't Get Approval To Return To Latrobe For Camp

Jun 24, 2021 9:38 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers wanted to return to St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania for training camp this year, but the NFL decided against allowing it.

The Steelers have announced that their plan for "safely hosting training camp on campus with fans" was not approved by the league, given the COVID protocols.

Pittsburgh will instead split training camp between their practice facility and Heinz Field.

Mason Rudolph Preparing To Eventually Start For Steelers

Jun 8, 2021 3:50 PM

Mason Rudolph is ready to become the starting quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers as soon as Ben Roethlisberger retires.

"That's my goal, to be a starting quarterback in this league and for our team, and I'm working toward that goal every single day," Rudolph said Tuesday when asked about potentially succeeding Roethlisberger next season. "I can only control myself and the way I prepare and the way I approach and play in OTAs and camp, and that's on the forefront of my mind.

"I'm not worried about '22 or anything like that. I'm trying to live in the moment and be the best I can for my team."

Rudolph is the only Steelers quarterback under contract in 2022 after signing a one-year, $5 million extension in April.

Ben Roethslisberger Approached Steelers About Pay Cut

Jun 1, 2021 5:27 PM

Ben Roethslisberger claims he approached the Pittsburgh Steelers about taking a pay cut to help their cap situation.

Roethlisberger recognized that his $41.25 million cap hit was untenable, and he asked the front office for a pay cut so it could fill the roster holes around him.

"It was my idea," Roethlisberger said Tuesday, speaking publicly for the first time since that postseason loss. "I told them I want to help the team out however we can, and so I went to them and told them that I would do whatever I could to help the team sign the guys that are going to help us win football games. ... In order to do that, to get guys here, I felt that it was necessary to do that."

Roethlisberger reduced his salary by $5 million.
