Chiefs Acquire Cam Erving From Browns For 5th Round Pick

Aug 30, 2017 8:00 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired Cam Erving from the Cleveland Browns for a fifth round pick in 2018.

Erving was a first round pick on the offensive line in 2015.

From 2007 through 2016 the Browns took 13 players in the first round of the draft. Three are still with the team.

The Chiefs are set in their starting lineup at both tackle positions, right guard and center for the foreseeable future, with all four players being signed at least through 2018. The only opening for Erving in the starting lineup would possibly be at left guard; last year's starter, Parker Ehinger, has yet to play in the preseason after tearing his ACL last year.

Chiefs Promote Patrick Mahomes II To Backup Quarterback

Aug 14, 2017 1:49 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted Patrick Mahomes II to backup quarterback behind Alex Smith.

Tyler Bray was dropped to No. 3.

Andy Reid said the move was one that Mahomes earned and not something the Chiefs would have done regardless of how he played.

"It's not because of Tyler's performance in the game," Reid said of Bray, who threw an interception in his first series Friday against the San Francisco 49ers. "I thought he actually did very well ... and Patrick did a nice job, too. It gives [Mahomes] an opportunity to step up and work with that second group and see what he can do there.

"It's not something [Tyler] didn't do. [Tyler] is playing well. But Patrick has also done a nice job. In order to step up with that group, Pat would have had to [make] progress."
