GM: Too Many Rushed Judgments For The Elite Young QBs

Nov 25, 2014 1:02 PM

At various points over the past year, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III have taken the mantle as the best young quarterback in the NFL.

The viewpoints in the media seem to be largely based on wins and losses.

"I think it is unfair to these guys almost to keep their stock report based on wins and losses or what they did last week," a general manager said recently.

Wilson is only trailing Peyton Manning in passer rating and QBR since Week 8 of last season.

"I think Luck is ahead of the others," the GM said. "Russell will never be able to close the gap on that one. Part of it is, just genetically, he cannot see over the line sometimes. But all these guys have strengths and weaknesses. Kaepernick is still about the same guy from last year, but last year he made big plays running. It naturally becomes an emotional assessment of these guys. All these guys are young. I always laugh when a guy is a year-and-a-half in and we're like, 'Is it time?' Really? You're going to make a change? Everyone will go through a slump."

Source: Dwayne Allen Is Player Colts Really Miss

Jul 14, 2014 8:48 PM

The Indianapolis Colts have struggled without Reggie Wayne, but a potentially even bigger loss came earlier in the season when the lost tight end Dwayne Allen.

Allen was drafted for the Colts to use him in two-tight end sets with Coby Fleener.

“The guy we really miss is Dwayne Allen,” said one person within the Colts' organization.

Allen is a strong blocker and sure-handed receiver.

Colts To Leave Trent Richardson As Lead Running Back

Jul 27, 2014 6:08 PM

The Indianapolis Colts will leave Trent Richardson as their lead running back despite his struggles and the strong play of Donald Brown.

"We don't plan on changing our rotation with our backs," said Pep Hamilton. "We've always been a running back by committee bunch, so we're going to continue to do that."

Brown has 21 more yards on half of the carries Richardson has had since the trade.

The Colts have defended Richardson's poor play.

The Indianapolis Colts have signed Chris Rainey.

Rainey was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers after a domestic dispute.

Rainey struggled at running back and the Colts will presumably use him as a returner.

Trent Richardson Defends Play Since Trade To Colts

Sep 15, 2014 7:39 PM

Trent Richardson is averaging just 2.8 yards per carry, but he insists that he's been playing well since being traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Indianapolis Colts.

"I'm not frustrated at all because I think I've been playing good," said Richardson. "If you turn on the film, I don't have any missed assignments. I haven't had any missed reads. I've been playing good. Stuff just hasn't matched up like we thought it would when I'm in there."

Richardson has struggled to exhibit the same explosiveness he displayed at Alabama leading him to become the third overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Donald Brown is averaging 5.9 yards per carry.

"I think teams match up differently when I come in," said Richardson.
