Deshaun Watson Settles 20 Of 24 Lawsuits

Jun 21, 2022 2:13 PM

Deshaun Watson has settled all but four of the lawsuits filed against him, attorney Tony Buzbee said in a statement Tuesday.

Since March 16, 2021, 25 lawsuits have been filed against Watson, alleging sexual assault and other inappropriate behavior during massage sessions. Of those 25, one was dropped by the plaintiff when the judge ruled her petition had to be amended with her name. The other 20, Buzbee said, have been settled.

"We are working through the paperwork related to those settlements," Buzbee said in a statement. "Once we have done so, those particular cases will be dismissed. The terms and amounts of the settlements are confidential. We won't comment further on the settlements or those cases."

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Tuesday that, "today's development has no impact on the collectively bargained disciplinary process."

Buzbee said in his statement that without Solis' "courage and willingness to come forward, the NFL wouldn't currently be contemplating discipline; there would be no examination of how teams might knowingly or unknowingly enable certain behavior; sports teams wouldn't be reviewing their personnel screening processes; and this important story wouldn't have dominated the sports headlines for more than a year."

Deshaun Watson Met With At Least 66 Women For Massage In 17 Months

Jun 7, 2022 5:38 PM

Deshaun Watson met with at least 66 women for massages over a 17-month period, which was far more than previously known.

More than two dozen women have said Watson harassed or assaulted them during massage appointments.

The conduct by Watson was also, knowingly or not, enabled by the Houston Texans. A team representative also furnished him with a nondisclosure agreement after a woman who is now suing him threatened online to expose his behavior.

Watson has said publicly that he hired about 40 different therapists across his five seasons in Houston, but The Times’s reporting found that he booked appointments with at least 66 different women in just the 17 months from fall 2019 through spring 2021.

Most of the women Watson saw for massages did not sue or call the police. But even some who did not complain said Watson came looking for sex.
