Lamar Jackson Hopeful About New Deal, But Talks Will Have 'Cutoff'

Jul 29, 2022 8:57 AM

Lamar Jackson remains hopeful he'll agree to a contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, but the quarterback doesn't want negotiations to drag into the regular season.

"I think so," Jackson said when asked if he thought a deal would get done. "I think so. I think so. We'll have to see."

When then asked if a deal would happen before the Ravens open the season on Sept. 11 against the New York Jets, Jackson responded: "I said there is going to be a cutoff [in talks]. So, hopefully."

Jackson, one of the few players in the NFL who doesn't have an agent and represents himself, has been eligible for an extension since last year.

Lamar Jackson Denies Social Media Post Is Message To Ravens

Jul 11, 2022 9:03 AM

Lamar Jackson set the internet on fire with speculation over the weekend when he changed his social media photo.

However, the quarterback says the move wasn't a message to the Baltimore Ravens.

Jackson changed his Instagram profile photo and Twitter header to a picture of a gold grill engraved with the phrase "I Need $", which many thought could be a message to the Ravens amid his ongoing contract negotiations with the team.

"I don't know why people are blowing it up," Jackson said during his fourth annual 'Funday with LJ' event. "I just saw Bleacher Report post it. They just take anything that's posted on social media and just blow it up, and try to think for you. I don't take it too seriously.

"They're making it seem like I'm talking to the Ravens when I'm not. Our contract discussion is going on already. But it ain't about that though."
