Maurice Clarett Joins Omaha Of UFL

Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett has signed a one-year contract with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. Clarett met Monday with team officials and UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue. "I am humbled by the opportunity the Omaha Nighthawks have given me and will dedicate myself on and off the field to prove that I can be a valuable member of the team and the Omaha community," Clarett said in a statement. "I am committed to working hard to earn the right for a second chance in football and more importantly in life."

Franklin Signs $7M Tender With 49ers

49ers nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin ended his lengthy holdout Saturday by signing a $7.003 million franchise tag tender. San Francisco defensive coordinator Greg Manusky said this week that while Franklin had fallen behind his teammates by missing camp, he believed the nose tackle could get up to speed for the opener by playing in the exhibition finale next Thursday against San Diego. Franklin has recorded 291 tackles, four sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles in his seven-year career.

Bears Sign QB Todd Collins

The Chicago Bears have signed QB Todd Collins to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Collins has completed 381 of 674 passing attempts (56.6 percent) for 4,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and 19 interceptions to compile a 76.0 passer rating in 47 games (20 starts) with the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins. Collins was originally drafted in the second round (45th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills out of the University of Michigan.

Seahawks Add WR Brandon Jones

The Seahawks have added wide receiver Brandon Jones to their roster. He opted to join Seattle over Minnesota and Oakland. Jones, 27, signed a five-year, $16.5 million contract with the 49ers in 2009 but never fit in and was released last week.
