The Texans waived quarterback David Carr, the first draft pick in franchise history five years ago, and running back Domanick Williams.
The Texans never have had a winning record, and Carr often was the scapegoat. He completed 60 percent of his passes, but also threw 65 interceptions and was sacked 249 times in five seasons.

Miami Begins Talking Trade For Carr
The Dolphins' front office spent part of Thursday speaking with the Houston Texans about quarterback David Carr and investigating all aspects of a possible trade for the former first overall pick in the 2002 draft.
Carr ending up in Miami is not a certainty. But it is a possibility that speaks to Miami's uncertain quarterback situation.
The team's interest in Carr, and even in Kansas City quarterback Trent Green, coupled with coach Cam Cameron's cautious words when he last spoke about Daunte Culpepper, indicate that Culpepper is not assured of being the team's starter in 2007.
Shawn Barber Signs With Houston
The Houston Texans reached agreement with free-agent linebacker Shawn Barber on a three-year, $5 million deal that includes $2.2 million in guaranteed money.
Leach Signs Four-Year Offer Sheet With Giants
Fullback Vonta Leach signed an offer sheet for a four-year contract with the Giants on Monday.
The Texans, Leach's current team, have seven days to match the deal, worth more than $7 million. If they don't match, Leach becomes a Giant.
Dayne To Back Up Green In Houston
Veteran tailback Ron Dayne, who re-energized his slumping career with the Texans in 2006, has reached agreement to return to the team after exploring options with other clubs during the first two weeks of the free agent signing period.
Broncos Win The Battle For QB Patrick Ramsey
The Broncos on Wednesday night won the battle for coveted backup quarterback Patrick Ramsey, with ESPN.com learning the club has reached a contract agreement with the five-year veteran.
Ramsey, 28, will sign a two-year contract worth approximately $5 million, with about $1.5 million in guarantees.
The Texans and Panthers also were interested in Ramsey, who recently was released by the Jets after only one season with the team. Ramsey will become the backup to Denver second-year pro Jay Cutler, and he ostensibly replaces Jake Plummer in that role.
Ahman Green Headed To Houston
Ahman Green became the first free agent running back to sign a contract this offseason as he agreed to a four-year, $23 million deal with the Houston Texans on Sunday.
The deal includes $8 million in the first year between signing bonus, roster bonus and base salary. Green also gets $18 million over the first three years of the contract, another staggering amount in a year of hefty contracts around the NFL.
Texans Lock Up Andre Johnson
The Texans signed receiver Andre Johnson to a multiyear contract extension Saturday.
Johnson had two years remaining on his current contract. Terms of the deal were not released, but he was scheduled to make $5.25 million next season and $7.75 million in 2008.
Johnson, the third overall pick in the 2003 draft, was selected to his second Pro Bowl after catching a career-high 103 passes for 1,147 yards last season.
"I've enjoyed my first four years in Houston and I'm excited about finishing my career with the Texans," Johnson said.
Source: Garcia Back In Play With Tampa Bay
After having a trade for Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer scuttled when the veteran reportedly decided to retire Friday, the Buccaneers have revisited the idea of signing 37-year-old Jeff Garcia, according to a source.
Steve Baker, Garcia's agent, spent much of Friday negotiating with the Raiders when it appeared that Plummer was headed to Tampa Bay. However, by late in the day, Garcia still hadn't reached a deal with Oakland.
Baker declined to discuss any specifics about Garcia, but said that the market for his client appeared to be good. Besides Tampa Bay and Oakland, the Houston Texans have also expressed interest.
