The New Orleans Saints have placed Michael Thomas on the physically unable to perform list and he'll miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

Thomas has been sidelined since he underwent ankle surgery in June.

The late timing of Thomas' surgery was a point of consternation with the team. Sean Payton said at the beginning of training camp, "Obviously we would've liked that to happen earlier than later. And quite honestly, it should've."

Thomas finished with 40 catches for 438 yards in seven regular-season games last season and didn't catch his first touchdown pass until the playoffs.

Travis Etienne will miss the entire 2021 season after being placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

Etienne will undergo surgery for a Lisfranc injury.

The Jaguars drafted Etienne 25th overall in the 2021 draft. Urban Meyer said he planned on having Etienne line up at receiver in addition to running back, similar to the way he used Percy Harvin at Florida.

Etienne left Clemson as the ACC's all-time leading rusher (4,752 yards).

Carson Wentz will be out five to 12 weeks with surgery on his injured left foot.

Frank Reich said it's an old injury, possibly from high school, and a broken bone came loose in Wentz's foot.

"I think it was a gut punch for him for about two hours," Reich said.
