Patriots May Use James White As Three-Down Back

Dec 10, 2014 10:19 PM

Bill Belichick believes James White can be a three-down running back for the New England Patriots this season.

White was a fourth round pick by the Patriots out of Wisconsin.

"It's been good working with James White. He's a very interesting and versatile player," Belichick told Sirius XM NFL Radio this month, per ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

White has drawn comparisons to Kevin Faulk in terms of the type of role he might have with the Patriots.

Tony Romo Declared 100 Percent Healthy By Jones

Dec 11, 2014 7:19 PM

Tony Romo has been declared completely healthy by Jerry Jones.

Romo sat out his second practice in five full practices so far in training camp for the Dallas Cowboys.

“He is 100 percent. He’s 100 percent,” Jones said during practice Tuesday. “He’s just being real smart and sensitive about having come off the back surgery. He’s certainly not losing any ground from the standpoint of opening up against San Francisco [in the regular-season opener].”

Romo underwent back surgery this offseason.

Josh Gordon To Argue Positive Test From Secondhand Smoke

Aug 7, 2014 8:49 AM

Josh Gordon's legal team will argue that his positive marijuana test was caused from secondhand smoke.

Gordon is appealing the NFL's imposition of a yearlong suspension for a positive test for marijuana.

Gordon's legal team will argue that the positive tests are so marginal that they show uncertainty as to whether the test results were truly positive, and even if so, were the result of exposure to secondhand smoke, according to sources familiar with the case.

Gordon's "A" sample tested at 16 nanograms per milliliter, a bare one nanogram per milliliter above the 15-nanogram-per-milliliter threshold, while Gordon's "B" sample -- which should theoretically be consistent with the "A" sample, as it comes from the exact same specimen -- tested at 13.63 ng/ml, lower than the threshold.

With both samples coming from the same specimen test, the results should be consistent.

Vick Ballard Tears Achilles Tendon

Sep 29, 2014 7:44 PM

Vick Ballard tore his Achilles on Friday.

Ballard missed all but one game last season for the Indianapolis Colts with a torn ACL.

"When you see someone like Vick Ballard go down who's worked so hard to get back, it's tough, but it happens," Colts owner Jim Irsay said. "As soon as you get to camp, those things happen. He's still young and he's got a full career ahead of him so we have to do an MRI and see exactly what it is and then go from there. But you really hope to not hear any of that kind of news."

Rob Gronkowski Won't Begin Season On PUP

Aug 5, 2014 4:46 AM

Rob Gronkowski will not begin the season on the physically unable to perform list for the New England Patriots.

Gronkowski said last week he plans on playing the full 16-game schedule.

Gronkowski, who was limited to seven games last season, underwent surgery on his right ACL on Jan. 9.

Gronkowski spent the majority of the offseason working out at the team's facility, yet his expected presence registers as a bit of a surprise.

Julio Jones Cleared For Beginning Of Camp

Oct 6, 2014 10:30 PM

Julio Jones has been cleared to participate in the Atlanta Falcons training camp.

Jones injured his foot in Week 5 last season.

"He will be limited in terms of his snaps," Mike Smith told the Journal-Constitution. "Our No. 1 goal is to make sure that we've got everybody as healthy as we possibly can be, but we know that we have to get these guys some work together and reps.

"Julio will be out there participating in practice right from the start."

Jones caught 41 passes for 580 yards and two scores last season before getting hurt.
