Cam Newton To Undergo Ankle Surgery, Four-Month Recovery

Cam Newton will undergo surgery on his ankle and will miss four months.

“The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it,” Panthers head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion said in a statement from the team.

Newton has lost his entire receiver corps this offseason.

Griffin Won't Wear Knee Brace In 2014

Robert Griffin III will not wear a knee brace during the 2014 season.

Griffin wasn't as explosive in 2013 coming back from tearing multiple ligaments in his right knee. It was widely believed Griffin would only need to wear it for one season.

"It's safe to say I won't be wearing the brace [in 2014]," Griffin said, according to CSN Washington.

Ben Tate will be the most sought after free agent running back.

Tate averaged 4.7 yards per carry in three seasons with the Houston Texans.

"I think I can bring you an elite running back," Tate said on Friday. "I've learned a lot being behind Arian (Foster). Definitely, when I'm healthy I think I'm an elite running back in this league, and I feel like I can show my abilities and my numbers and my play will speak for itself, and guys will be able to see that I am a guy who is a top-five running back in this league, which I believe once I get out there and get to show that on a consistent basis."

Peyton Manning To Undergo Next Exam On Monday

Peyton Manning will undergo his postseason neck exam on Monday.

Manning already passed his exit physical from team doctors and had no issues with the neck during the season.

Manning is signed through the 2016 season and has no thoughts about retirement.
