Justin Jefferson Skips Start Of OTAs With Vikings

May 20, 2024 10:20 PM

Justin Jefferson was not spotted at the Minnesota Vikings' training facility Monday for the start of OTA amid talks on a contract extension.

Jefferson also didn't participate in the earlier portion of the Vikings' offseason program, which, like OTAs, is voluntary.

The Vikings and Jefferson have been discussing terms of the deal for more than a year.

GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said previously that they got "unbelievably close" to a deal last summer before tabling the talks at the start of the 2023 regular season.

Last season, Jefferson was leading the NFL in receiving yards (543) when he suffered a right hamstring injury in Week 5. After returning for good in Week 15, he amassed 476 receiving yards, the second-highest total in the league over that period.

Vote On Brady's Partial Purchase Of Raiders Is 'Doubtful' This Week

May 21, 2024 8:25 AM

It is "doubtful" that a vote on Tom Brady's proposed purchase of a share in the Las Vegas Raiders will be held at this week's meetings in Nashville, according to a report.

The deal was first struck in February 2023, but the league still hasn't voted on it.

Last week, the NFL said that there are no limitations on the games Brady can work as an analyst for Fox, because he's "not an owner of the Raiders."

This implies that, once he is (if he is), things could change.

Tee Higgins Not Expected To Sign Tender Before OTAs

May 21, 2024 8:19 AM

Tee Higgins has not signed his franchise tender with the Cincinnati Bengals and is not expected to by next week, according to a source.

If the wide receiver doesn't sign the tender, he would be ineligible to report for Cincinnati's organized team activities that run May 28-30 and June 3-6.

The Bengals' mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 11-13.

Higgins and the Bengals have been unable to come to terms on a long-term deal. The two sides haven't discussed an extension in over a year, according to a source.

Of the eight players who were given the franchise tag this offseason, Higgins is the only one who has not signed a multiyear contract.

Bryce Young 'Doing Fantastic' In Panthers' New Offense

May 21, 2024 8:17 AM

Dave Canales loves the way Bryce Young has picked up the new offense he's implementing with the Carolina Panthers.

"He's doing fantastic with it," Canales said Monday after the first full day of voluntary workouts. "So, for us the formations are pretty vanilla so we can just teach the concept we want out of each route, the depth, the footwork we want.

"As I expect him to do, he's really mastered that part of it."

Young needed a positive change after a rookie season in which he ranked 29th out of 30 qualified quarterbacks in Total QBR (33.4), 33rd in completion percentage (59.8%) and 28th in touchdown passes (11).

Browns Pass Rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo Wants Double-Digit Sacks

May 20, 2024 8:53 AM

Cleveland Browns pass rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo has set a goal for the 2024 season.

Okoronkwo has never had more than five sacks in a season, but the 29-year-old is aiming for a double-digit sack year.

"This year, I'm trying to ... I'll say it: I'll speak it into existence. I’m going for double-digit sacks this year," Okoronkwo said. "That's the goal every year. I'm just going to put in the work. I hate to say numbers, but that's what I'm looking to get."

Okoronkwo joined the Browns on a three-year, $19 million deal before last season.

Report: Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars Discussing Massive Extension

May 20, 2024 8:49 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in talks with Trevor Lawrence about a contract extension that is expected to pay the quarterback around $50 million annually, according to a report.

The Jaguars have no doubts about the former No. 1 overall pick, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Lawrence opened up about his contract situation last month while confirming that he and the Jaguars had started to discuss a possible extension.

"I'd love to, obviously, be a Jag for as long as possible," he said at the time. "We love it here and I love where we're headed as an organization and feel like I'm just getting better every year. My best ball is definitely ahead of me. So, from that standpoint, obviously, yeah, that would be great."
