Broncos Plan On Using Excess Depth At Running Back

Sep 7, 2017 10:46 AM

The Denver Broncos have five running backs on their 53-man roster and even signed Jonathan Williams to a lucrative practice-squad contract to add more depth.

In 2016, the Broncos were 27th in the league in rushing yards per game (92.8), tied for 28th in yards per carry (3.6), tied for 20th in rushing touchdowns (11) and had just one 100-yard game from a running back all season.

"It's absolutely something we want to do better," Vance Joseph said. "That was something we needed to address."

C.J. Anderson has worked as the Broncos' No. 1 back with Devontae Booker expected to split carries but he suffered a wrist fracture. The Broncos added Jamaal Charles and De'Angelo Henderson in the offseason.

"We like where we're at," Anderson said. "... We have a lot of ways to come at a defense."
