Josh Gordon To Play 20-30 Snaps For Browns In Week 12

Dec 8, 2014 5:01 PM

Josh Gordon is expected to get 20 to 30 snaps for the Cleveland Browns as he returns from a 10-game suspension.

Gordon spent the last 11 weeks working out on his own and catching passes from a jugs machine. He could attend team meetings but couldn't participate in on-field team activities.

Gordon averaged 117.6 receiving yards per game last season, which means the Browns inherit a high-performance vehicle at a critical time in the team's playoff push at 6-4.

"I think it makes things easier," Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said. "It gives you different options."

Gruden: Clock's Ticking For Robert Griffin III

Nov 27, 2014 12:10 AM

Robert Griffin III has been put on notice by Jay Gruden that he needs to play better now that he's in the second half of his third NFL season.

"He's auditioned long enough," Gruden told NFL.com. "Clock's ticking. He's gotta play.

"We'll see. ... We want Robert to excel, we really do. But the last two games, it hasn't been very good, anywhere. We gotta play better around him. And the biggest thing for us as playcallers, and for him, we just have to come together and jell with plays he's comfortable with. That takes time. But we don't have a lot of time."

Aldon Smith Received Double-, Triple-Teams In First Game Back

Dec 8, 2014 9:55 AM

Aldon Smith was double- and triple-teamed in his first week back in the San Francisco 49ers' lineup. The New York Giants would send two offensive linemen at him, or one lineman and a running back.

Aaron Lynch was beginning to receive double teams before Smith's return.

Justin Smith compared the return of Smith to the return of a No. 1 receiver in terms of how he can impact the game.

LeSean McCoy Insists He's 'The Same Player' As 2013

Nov 22, 2014 10:03 PM

LeSean McCoy has just 729 yards after 10 games this season one year after having 932 after 10.

"I'm not even going to address 'am I the same player?'" McCoy said. "That's for you all to figure out."

McCoy then went on to answer the question.

"Are you crazy?" he said. "I am the same player. I'm not going to sit here and play that game, like, 'Am I the same player?'"

The Philadelphia Eagles don't have a serious deep threat and have also had injuries to their offensive line.

"Statistically there is [a drop-off], but I think we're a different team," Chip Kelly said.

Josh Gordon 'Going To Tear This League Up'

Nov 27, 2014 9:59 AM

Josh Gordon is optimistic about how he'll quickly be productive coming off his 10-game suspension.

"He told me: 'Starting on practice this Wednesday, I'm going to outwork everybody on the field,'" Burleson said Tuesday on NFL Network's NFL Total Access: "(He said) 'I'm going to try to evoke a pride in Cleveland that can hopefully lead us to the playoffs.' He's excited about coming back."

Gordon caught 87 balls for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns last season in 14 games.

"He said, 'I plan to lose 10 to 15 pounds and when I come back I'm going to tear this league up,'" Burleson said. "Now, this offense is different; it's not the same offense as last year. So, they're not going to be running and gunning, throwing the ball up the sideline, but definitely look for them to get Josh involved early, kind of to get his rhythm back."

Golden Tate Believes Lions 'Growing' Into Offense

Nov 19, 2014 11:49 AM

The Detroit Lions' offense remains a work in progress, but Golden Tate believes they're growing into it.

“We’re still doing a lot of growing,” Tate said after an event at the Microsoft Store in Troy, Michigan. “We’re still trying to figure out the type of team, of offense that we want to be. We’re learning and the good news is we still have a long ways to go but we’re still sitting 7-3 with a really bright future.

“I think we can stay healthy and stay motivated and keep grinding, it’s all going to work out. We’re still learning and figuring things out.”

Fisher: Peyton's System With Broncos Better Than Colts

Nov 14, 2014 1:26 PM

As an NFL head coach, Jeff Fisher has faced Peyton Manning 19 times, including one playoff game. Fisher believes Manning has never been better.

"With all due respect to the Colts and that system, the system is completely different now," Fisher said on a conference call. "Everybody is moving around, as compared to Marvin [Harrison] playing on one side, Reggie [Wayne] on the other.

"This offense is completely different. They've done an outstanding job of putting outstanding players around him. I think this is the best cast of playmakers he's ever had, and obviously the results are showing that."

Rodgers: I Can Promise You This Is Not Easy

Nov 12, 2014 6:13 PM

Aaron Rodgers threw six touchdown passes in the first half of the Green Bay Packers' Sunday Night win over the Chicago Bears.

The Packers pulled Rodgers out of the game with more than 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

“I can promise you this is not easy,” Rodgers said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “It’s not easy to do this every week. We put a lot of time into it. We all do. We prepare to be successful. There’s a high expectation on our players, based on the number of checks that we do and the game plan every week, to have creative input but also make the game plan work. It’s tough to execute like that, but that’s what happens when everybody works together and believes in each other.”

Carroll Recognizes Seahawks' Offense Better With Quicker Tempo

Nov 9, 2014 3:04 PM

The Seattle Seahawks' offense has been inconsistent except at the end of the first half and the end of the game when they're forced to pick up the tempo.

“It’s something that we’ve recognized,” Pete Carroll said on Sports Radio KJR earlier this week. “We are better when our tempo is really good, so that is a point of emphasis. We see how well we’ve done when we’re going at a good pace.

"We seem to be more effective then. We go in and out of that. It’s kind of a modified 2-minute drill. We’re just going faster.”

Carroll was asked why they don't try a hurry-up style more often.

“It does take us away from the plan of running the football like we like to,” Carroll said. “We are out of the formula we really like. So there’s a little bit of a give-and-take there.

“You throw the ball a little more when you do it. So we’re mixing it in, and hopefully, as we start the second half, we’ll see if our [faster] tempo can enhance the way we perform on offense.”
