Tampa Bay Releases Griese
With the emergence of Chris Simms, Brian Griese became expendable to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers released Griese on Friday, ending the veteran quarterback's two-year run with the team. They also parted ways with linebacker Jeff Gooch and offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb, saving the team approximately $8 million under the salary cap.
Brooks Restructures Deal With Bucs
Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks is staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after restructuring his contract to give the NFC South champions some salary cap relief.
The nine-time Pro Bowl selection said Monday he would like to retire as with the Buccaneers and hopes the restructured deal that freed about $5 million in cap space will help make that happen.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have addressed the situation regarding the impending free agency of quarterback Chris Simms, at least for now.
The Buccaneers on Wednesday re-signed Simms to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Tampa Bay's third-round draft selection in 2003, Simms enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2005. He replaced injured starter Brian Griese six games into the season and helped lead the Buccaneers to an 11-5 record and the NFC South Division title.
