Dec 3, 2014 7:28 PM

The San Diego Chargers have their new head coach and it's the man everyone thought was going to be head coach of Dallas. FOXSports.com has learned that the Chargers have tabbed 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner as their new head coach. Turner went to San Diego late last night to work out a deal with the team. General Manager A.J. Smith held talks with Turner late last night and ironed out a deal. This morning Turner informed his current boss Mike Nolan that he did in fact have the job and was moving on. FOXSports.com first reported the Chargers direction at about midnight Sunday.

Rex Ryan, Norv Turner Interview For Chargers' Job

Oct 1, 2014 5:06 PM

Flashing a Super Bowl ring, which is a strange sight around here, Rex Ryan spoke about how he'd love to win an NFL championship with the Chargers. "That would be something that we'd be targeting. We'd like to get several of those," Ryan said after emerging from his interview with Chargers executives on Thursday. Ryan earned his Super Bowl ring as defensive line coach of the Ravens in 2000. He just completed his second year as the Ravens' defensive coordinator. Niners offensive coordinator Norv Turner, a two-time Super Bowl winner as Dallas' offensive coordinator in the early 1990s, interviewed Thursday afternoon.

49ers And Young Negotiate New Deal

Oct 21, 2014 4:08 PM

Contract negotiations for defensive tackle Bryant Young are under way, according to the 49ers. The team expects that Young will return for his 14th season with the club. The length of the deal is still part of the discussion. Young, 35, has missed only three games in the last two seasons, and last year appeared in all 16 games. He won the Len Eshmont award, given to the team's most courageous and inspirational player, by a vote of his teammates for the seventh time last season. His 5.5 sacks and 52 tackles also made him a Pro Bowl alternate. "He still has a lot of that left," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said at the end of the season. "I also think that as we're building this thing, you need as many people like B.Y. on your football team (as possible) to reinforce what that player does, not only for your players, but for your community and every aspect of your organization. I would hope that for those two reasons he would remain."

49ers Thrilled To Keep Norv Turner

Jul 29, 2014 9:15 PM

Norv Turner won't be the Cowboys' next head coach after all. That's great news for everybody with the 49ers, and even Turner doesn't seem too disappointed to be staying home. The Cowboys hired Wade Phillips on Thursday, about 10 days after Turner emerged as the apparent front-runner to replace Bill Parcells. Turner, the Cowboys' former offensive coordinator who holds the same job in San Francisco, won two Super Bowl titles in three seasons running Dallas' offense. But the Bay Area native will be chasing his third ring with the 49ers, whose once-awful offense improved remarkably during his first season in charge. After Phillips' hiring was announced, Turner said he had no regrets about his failed bid -- and he reaffirmed his desire to work alongside Mike Nolan.

Newberry Done With Niners, May Go To Oakland

Oct 31, 2014 7:29 PM

Center Jeremy Newberry's almost decadelong association with the 49ers ended this week when he was informed the team wouldn't re-sign him. Newberry, who wants to play again after recovering from microfracture right knee surgery in August, will turn his attention to the Raiders. Newberry, 30, was chosen by the 49ers in the second round of the 1998 draft out of Cal and rose to become the team's best lineman for several seasons. He was elected to the Pro Bowl in 2002.
