Jets Will Release Darrelle Revis

Mar 1, 2017 8:52 AM

The New York Jets will release Darrelle Revis on March 9th.

Revis was scheduled to count $15.3 million against the 2017 salary cap. The announcement came 11 days after Revis was charged with four felonies, including aggravated assault.

Revis' legal issues didn't factor into the team's decision to release him, a source said, adding that it was "100 percent football related."

The Jets made the decision internally three weeks ago to release Revis.

Jets Release Nick Mangold

Feb 27, 2017 10:46 AM

The New York Jets have released Nick Mangold.

The Jets are clearing their roster of older, more expensive players as they rebuild.

"For the past 11 years, Nick Mangold has been a cornerstone of our team both on and off the field," Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. "As our Pro Bowl center, Nick consistently demonstrated superior skill and unmatched toughness. Equally important, off the field, Nick exhibited respect, sensitivity and compassion for the causes he supported.

"It has been a privilege to have known Nick these many years and, for all of us, I say Nick will always be a Jet."

Jets Release Nick Folk, Breno Giacomini

Feb 24, 2017 7:01 AM

The New York Jets have released Nick Folk and Breno Giacomini, creating $7.5 million in cap space.

Folk had been with the Jets since 2010 and is the second-leading scorer in franchise history, behind only Pat Leahy. His 81.3 percent accuracy on field goals is the highest in team history based on a minimum of 100 attempts.

"It's a sad day, but that's the business side of things," Folk said in a statement. "I had a great seven years here. I think the only thing that would've topped it off would've been a couple of Super Bowl wins."

Giacomini, 31, who signed a free-agent deal with the Jets in 2014, played only five games last season due to a back problem.

Pittsburgh Police Investigating Altercation Involving Darrelle Revis

Feb 16, 2017 6:53 PM

Darrelle Revis is being investigated by Pittsburgh police for his involvement in a street altercation with two other men over the weekend.

Police say charges are pending against the four-time All-Pro and include robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy and aggravated assault.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning in Pittsburgh's popular South Side.

One of the men recognized Revis and asked him if he was the Jets cornerback. The man then started recording the interaction on his cellphone and continued to follow Revis on the street.

Revis, police say, tried to take away the cellphone and delete the video, which led to a verbal argument. Another male came to assist Revis. The two men were punched, and witnesses say they were unconscious for about 10 minutes.

Police obtained the cellphone video and ID'd Revis.

Revis' attorney, Blaine Jones, said in an email to WTAE that he was the victim and sought medical treatment. He didn't reveal the nature of his injuries.

"Mr. Revis came home to Pittsburgh this past weekend to visit family and friends. During that time, Mr. Revis went by a location in the South Side that he is in the process of developing," Jones said in the email. "Mr. Revis was physically assaulted while at that location by a group of at least five people. Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors."

Feb 15, 2017 8:29 PM

The New York Jets have released Ryan Clady, declining his $1 million roster bonus.

Clady was acquired by the Jets last offseason from the Denver Broncos.

The Jets cleared $10 million in cap space by cutting Clady, which should get them under the projected salary cap for 2017. Previously, they were about $7 million over the cap.

Jets Unlikely To Pursue Jay Cutler

Feb 9, 2017 11:14 AM

The New York Jets have hired Jeremy Bates as quarterback coach, which has fueled speculation that the team will pursue Jay Cutler.

Cutler and Bates worked together for four seasons.

Cutler is expected to be cut or traded by the Chicago Bears this offseason, but they Jets are not expected to be interested.

The Jets reportedly prefer Tyrod Taylor and Mike Glennon over Cutler.
