Patriots Sign David Harris

Jun 21, 2017 11:21 AM

The New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year deal with David Harris.

The New York Jets released Harris on June 6 after being unable to agree on a pay cut with the linebacker, who played 10 seasons for the team.

The Patriots needed a linebacker to play the most snaps alongside Dont'a Hightower.

Harris was surprised by the Jets' decision to release him.

A second-round pick in 2007, Harris ranks No. 2 in tackles in Jets team history.

Todd Bowles: Jets Have No Front-Runner In QB Competition

Jun 16, 2017 7:59 AM

The New York Jets don't have a front-runner as they continue to determine who will begin the season as their starting quarterback.

"It's a competition," Todd Bowles said.

Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty all have an equal chance at the job currently.

The belief had been that it's McCown's job to lose, but Bowles attempted to put those rumors to bed.

"I don't look at anybody as the front-runner. I just wait until training camp comes and we'll sort it out then," Bowles said.

Jets Unsuccessful Trying To Trade Eric Decker

Jun 14, 2017 8:46 AM

The New York Jets were unsuccessful trying to trade Eric Decker and will release him.

Teams interested in Decker wanted the Jets to pick up part of his salary.

Decker is signed through the 2018 season. He is scheduled to be paid $7.25 million in base salary in 2017 and $7.5 million in 2018.

Decker underwent hip and shoulder surgeries last fall, but he is healthy and has been practicing.

Jets Reached Out To Steve Smith About Playing In 2017

Jun 7, 2017 8:54 AM

The New York Jets have cut ties with a number of veterans this offseason, but that didn't stop them from reaching out to Steve Smith.

The Jets contacted Smith to see if he was interested in playing this coming season, according to a report.

"Earlier today in the green room, Steve Smith Sr. was saying 'Hey, the Jets reached out to me,'" the NFL Network's Kimberly Jones explained. "Yes, the Jets reached out to Steve Smith, asked if he was still interested in playing. He indicated he wasn't."

Jets To Release David Harris

Jun 6, 2017 2:25 PM

The New York Jets will release David Harris in a surprising move.

The Jets evidently felt Harris, 33, was expendable after reacquiring linebacker Demario Davis last week in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. They acquired Davis in a deal that sent disgruntled safety Calvin Pryor to the Browns.

Harris was due to make a $6.5 million in non-guaranteed salary this season, the final year of a three-year contract.

The Jets are in the middle of a major rebuilding movement.

Eric Mangini Hopes To Reconcile With Bill Belichick

Jun 4, 2017 10:54 AM

Eric Mangini still hopes to one day have a reconciliation with Bill Belichick.

Belichick was once Mangini's close-friend and mentor but they haven't spoken since the Spygate incident in 2007.

"Am I surprised? I hope it's something that can come back," Mangini told ESPN on Saturday at his alma mater, Bulkeley High School, where he conducted his annual youth football camp.

"Look, Bill is a big part of my life. Bill gave me a tremendous opportunity, and I enjoyed that experience, and I respect him. It's disappointing, the way it's been. Hopefully, it can change at some point."

Mangini left the Patriots to join the New York Jets in 2006.

Before a game in 2007, Mangini told Jets security to keep an eye on the Patriots' sideline, where they were illegally videotaping opponents' signals.

Jets Acquire Demario Davis From Browns For Calvin Pryor

Jun 2, 2017 6:06 PM

The Cleveland Browns have acquired Calvin Pryor from the New York Jets for Demario Davis.

Davis was a starter for the Jets from 2013 until 2015.

The Jets had been trying to trade Pryor since the draft, when they selected Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye -- both safeties -- in the first two rounds.

The return of Davis gives the Jets three starting-caliber insider linebackers.

The Jets were planning to release Pryor, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported. Pryor was the 18th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
