Ravens Expect To Give Patriots 'Run For Their Money'

Oct 31, 2019 8:24 AM

The Baltimore Ravens are underdogs heading into Sunday night's game against the undefeated New England Patriots, but they don't lack confidence.

"We'll see how good they are once we play them," tight end Nick Boyle said. "I don't think they've seen anyone like our offense or like Lamar [Jackson]. They're a good team and we'll need to bring our 'A' game."

The Patriots, who are 8-0, are the only team since 1970 to lead the NFL in points allowed, takeaways and sacks through Week 8.

Jackson is having a historic season as well. He's the only quarterback in NFL history to pass for 1,600 yards and rush for 500 yards through the first seven games of a season.

"We're definitely the type of team that's prepared to play this team and definitely one that's going to give them a run for their money," defensive tackle Brandon Williams said.

The New England Patriots have released Mike Nugent and agreed to terms with Nick Folk, according to a source.

Folk last kicked with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2017.

Nugent, 37, was signed on Oct. 3 after the Patriots placed Stephen Gostkowski on season-ending injured reserve with a hip injury. Nugent appeared in four games, and was 5-of-8 on field goals and 15-of-16 on point-after attempts.

Tom Brady Downplays Speculation About Future

Oct 29, 2019 8:45 AM

Tom Brady insists that any speculation about his future with the New England Patriots is just that.

The quarterback has said recently that he doesn't understand the obsession over his contract.

"None of it is brought on by the things I’ve said," Brady said. "Again, I said last week, nothing has changed with my status of my team and my standing. I've really been focused on my job. A lot of the hype, a lot of the media speculation is just that. It's probably that time of year where you don't need to focus so much on the wins and losses. You start focusing on a lot of other things. The media has a right to do that. I certain don't. I'm focused on what I need to do this year. We're off to a good start. I want to capitalize here in the second half of the year. That's where I am personally."

Brady's contract won't allow the Patriots to place the franchise tag on him. If no extension is reached, he'll be a free agent in March.

"Again, I don't know why it's being brought up," he said. "I had a good quote that came to mind. Someone told me the past and future are in the mind. I'm in the now. I think that's a great way to live life. I'm not thinking about many things beyond this week. There are some family things I'm thinking about with the holidays coming up, but outside of that I'm thinking about football and how I can be the best for the New England Patriots."

Bill Belichick Open To Coaching Into 70s

Oct 28, 2019 8:00 PM

Bill Belichick is leaving the door open to coach into his 70s. Belichick is now 67 and just recorded his 300th career win as head coach.

"When I said it, maybe I didn't know what 70 felt like," Belichick said Monday during his weekly appearance on sports radio WEEI. "So I'm not really sure if that's an accurate statement today or not. At the time, I didn't feel that way. Now that I'm closer to that age, I don't know."

In the 2009 documentary "A Football Life: Bill Belichick," he had said he didn't plan to follow in the path of longtime Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy, who had coached into his 70s.

Tom Brady has all options on the table for 2020, including remaining with the New England Patriots, retiring or moving on to another franchise.

One source said the Patriots have two advantages to Brady that no other situation can offer in Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick.

"Never underestimate Robert Kraft," one source familiar with the situation that awaits the Patriots and Brady told ESPN.

While Brady's relationship with Belichick and Kraft has been questioned at times, it reportedly is great currently.

Patriots Expected To Waive Josh Gordon When Healthy

Oct 24, 2019 9:45 PM

The New England Patriots placed Josh Gordon on injured reserve Wednesday, but his season may not be over.

Multiple reports labeled Gordon's injury as "minor" and he expects to be cleared to play soon.

The Patriots are expected to waive Gordon off injured reserve once he's cleared, according to a report. Doing so would allow the wide receiver to play for another team this season. If they waive him after Tuesday's trade deadline, Gordon would be subject to waivers.
