J.J. Watt Keeping Door Open For NFL Return

May 5, 2024 1:57 PM

J.J. Watt is keeping the door slightly ajar on a possible NFL return if the Houston Texans need him, but this is the final year he'll say that.

Watt, who retired after the 2022 season, made his comments Saturday as he hosted his annual charity softball game in Houston.

"I'm a very fortunate, lucky man, I have a beautiful wife, I have a beautiful son. I've had 12 great years in this league and I'm very thankful to have walked away healthy and playing great," he told reporters. "I told DeMeco [Ryans] last year: 'Don't call unless you absolutely need it, but, if you ever do call, I'll be there.' And he knows not to call unless he absolutely needs it. This is the last year I'll tell him that, because I'm not going to keep training [the way] I've been training."

Hannah McNair: Texans 'Want To Win Now'

Apr 12, 2024 8:10 AM

The Houston Texans have made a number of splashes this offseason, something that has pleased ownership.

"We want to win now," Hannah McNair said.

The highest profile move made by the Texans was this month's trade with the Buffalo Bills for Stefon Diggs.

"Our boys, when they heard the Stefon Diggs news, were screaming around the house," McNair said, "and then their friends said their teacher stopped class to tell everyone, so there's quite a buzz amongst the younger generation about the guys that we brought in, so that's exciting."

Texans To Let Stefon Diggs Be Free Agent In 2025

Apr 4, 2024 4:24 PM

As part of their blockbuster trade to acquire wide receiver Stefon Diggs, the Houston Texans wiped out the final three years on his contract, giving him the ability to become a free agent after this season, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Texans also took the $3.5 million guaranteed to Diggs next season and moved up into this season, giving him a raise and assuring him of $22.52 million in guaranteed money in 2024.

Texans Acquire Stefon Diggs From Bills For 2025 2nd Rounder

Apr 3, 2024 10:57 AM

The Houston Texans have agreed to acquire Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills for Minnesota's 2025 second round pick. The Texans will also receive a 2024 sixth round pick and a 2025 fifth round pick.

Digs signed a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the Bills in 2022. There was an expectation that Diggs and the Bills would restructure his contract this offseason. Buffalo will carry a $31 million dead cap number in 2024 following the trade.

During the 2023 season, Diggs caught 107 balls for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.

Diggs is represented by Adisa Bakari.

Saquon Barkley First Considered Texans In Free Agency

Mar 27, 2024 1:26 PM

Saquon Barkley made headlines when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this month.

However, Barkley admitted on the "New Heights" podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce that the Eagles weren't the first team he considered when he realized he'd be leaving the New York Giants.

"I'm gonna be honest here, that's what the show is for. The first team that had my real interest was Houston [Texans]," the running back said. "I got to communicate with C.J. [Stroud] and a couple of those boys. But this was before you could actually put offers on the table and talk to teams."

The Texans ended up acquiring Joe Mixon in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals and signing him to a contract extension.

Source: NFL To Vote On Texans Ownership Change

Mar 22, 2024 8:29 AM

League owners will vote on whether to approve Houston Texans chairman and CEO Cal McNair as the franchise's new principal owner at the NFL owners' meeting, according to a source.

The vote is expected to take place on Tuesday morning.

Bob McNair, the Texans' former owner, died in November 2018. His wife, Janice McNair, became the Texans' principal owner and is one of 10 women who are principal owners.

After his father's death, Cal took over the Texans' daily football procedures and has represented the team at owner's meetings in place of Janice.

The expected vote, which was first reported by The Houston Chronicle, doesn't mean the team is available for purchase, as a source labeled the Texans as not for sale and "have no plans for that."

"There were a couple teams that they would allow me, I guess, to say where I wanted to go," Allen said Saturday. "I only had like two teams."
