Report: Briggs Says He Cut Himself Shaving
Bears linebacker Lance Briggs claims that he cut his right hand while attempting to shave with a straight-edged razor.
Briggs made an autograph appearance wearing a heavy wrap on his right hand Saturday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
If Briggs failed to inform the team of the injury, it would constitute a violation of his contract.
Bears Also Wanted Michael Mitchell In 2nd Round
The Raiders were widely panned when they selected Ohio safety Michael Mitchell in the second round with the 47th overall pick, but the Bears reportedly were going to select him with the 49th pick.
?I was thinking about going to Chicago, because they told me to stay close to my phone," said Mitchell. "Oakland was able to get to 47 and thought there was still a chance there. It?s just so amazing how this happened and worked out, I?m just pumped.?
Mitchell was the highest drafted player not invited to the combine during this decade, according to SI's Peter King.
Bears Offered Second-Rounder For Boldin
Bears general manager Jerry Angelo offered the Cardinals a second round pick on Saturday in exchange for receiver Anquan Boldin.
It was believed that Arizona softened their stance, but they initially were looking for a first- and third-round pick for the receiver.
"I would assume [trade talks are dead]," Angelo said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "If it was going to happen, it would happen [Saturday]. How motivated they were or weren't ? they came out [asking for] a one and a three and there were things that I read, so I really don't know what their thinking was."
Cutler Wants Burress In Chicago
New Bears quarterback Jay Cutler reportedly reached out to free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress recently.
The report was originally made on a Chicago sports radio station, and it is not yet known whether or not Cutler approached Burress with a blessing from the team's front office.
Cutler Still Eligible For $100K Bonus From Bears
Jay Cutler is still eligible for his $100,000 workout bonus, which he reportedly forfeited with the Broncos when he failed to show up for voluntary workouts last month.
Chicago acquired Cutler before the start of their voluntary offseason workout program.
Cutler: Asking For Trade Was My Decision
Jay Cutler said in an interview with an ESPN affiliate in Chicago that he ultimately made the decision to ask for a trade, not agent Bus Cook.
"This was my decision. Bus Cook's my agent and I ask his advice, but at the end of the day I've got to do what's best for me," said Cutler, who then compared the situation to Cook's ordeal with Brett Favre in 2008.
"I felt what's best for me was moving on. I don't know how influential Bus was with Brett, but this was my decision. I thought over it long and hard and I think I made the right one at the end of the day."
Cutler: I'm Not Chicago's Savior
Jay Cutler grew up a fan of the Bears, but during his introductory press conference on Saturday he stressed that he isn't the team's savior.
"I don't see myself as that," Cutler said Friday.
The Bears gave up a lot for a player that doesn't see himself as the missing link.
"Time will tell if he's going to be a franchise player," Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said of Cutler. "We're certainly hoping that's the case. But what we do know is we got a winning quarterback, and we feel very good about that."
Former Bears Lineman Dies At 33
Ken Anderson, a former University of Arkansas and Chicago Bears defensive lineman, has died of a heart attack at age 33.
Anderson's pastor, Dexter Howard of Life Harvester Church in Fayetteville, confirmed to The Associated Press on Saturday that Anderson died Friday night. Anderson was a minister at the church and was living in the Fayetteville area.
Cutler Wouldn't Have Reported To Browns Because Of Mangini
The Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday that the Browns engaged in trade talks with Denver, but that former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler didn't want to play for Browns coach Eric Mangini.
The paper, citing a source, said that Cutler's agent, Bus Cook, made it clear when talks began that Cutler re fused to play for Mangini and that he feared Cutler wouldn't report to the Browns.
According to the source, Cutler didn't want to play for Mangini because Mangini didn't get along last year in New York with Brett Favre, who also is represented by Cook.
Bears Aren't Concerned With Cutler's Character
Bears general manager Jerry Angelo isn't concerned with Jay Cutler's character after he demanded a trade from the Broncos.
"I don't have any concerns," Angelo said. "Lovie and I talked about that. We did a lot of work, not just when he was with Denver, going back to his days at Vanderbilt. One of our area scouts, Rex Hogan, lives in the Nashville area [and] developed a great rapport during the process prior to the [2006] draft.
"We felt that he's a very good person, a good leader. He had some things that happened in Denver. We recognize those, but we treated them as speed bumps, part of the growing process. He's highly competitive, he's highly emotional. That comes with the territory."
Bears Sign Pace To Protect Cutler
Shortly after landing Jay Cutler, the Bears signed offensive tackle Orlando Pace to a three-year deal to protect their new quarterback.
Cutler, Bears Haven't Talked Contract Yet
The Bears haven't discussed a new contract with newly-acquired quarterback Jay Cutler, but talks are expected to start sooner rather than later.
Grading The Deal: Chicago Acquires Cutler
Giving up two first round picks for Jay Cutler is a heavy price for the Bears, but he has the potential of joining Steve Young and Brett Favre as future HOF QBs that were dealt young.
Bears Make Deal For Cutler
Jay Cutler is now a member of the Chicago Bears.
Bears Trying To Sign Orlando Pace
After meeting with the free agent tackle on Tuesday, the Bears have reportedly made signing Orlando Pace a priority.
