Quinn Leads Browns To TD In Win Over Bears

Sep 28, 2014 5:59 PM

Brady Quinn says he's ready to make an impact for the Browns and he did in the preseason finale. When his next opportunity comes remains to be seen. The rookie from Notre Dame was efficient, if unspectacular, leading the Browns to a touchdown in a 19-9 victory over the Bears on Thursday night. Now, it's up to coach Romeo Crennel to decide if Quinn's time is sooner or later. Although incumbent Charlie Frye is expected to start the opener against Pittsburgh, Quinn's time will come for the Browns (3-1).

Briggs Says He Panicked, Reported Car Stolen

Oct 31, 2014 4:47 AM

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs said he panicked after he crashed his new Lamborghini along a highway early Monday morning and initially reported his car stolen after abandoning the mangled vehicle. Briggs, speaking to reporters after practice on Tuesday, said he called a tow truck after leaving the scene and then reported his 2007 Murcielago was stolen. "When it happened, the first thing I did was, obviously, I panicked," Briggs said. "I didn't want there to be a big scene there. And so I left the scene. When I left, I called the tow truck. I also was startled, and I called to report that my car was stolen. Within probably 10 minutes, I called back and accepted responsibility for what I did because it was ridiculous in the first place."

Briggs' Lamborghini Found Wrecked And Abandoned

Dec 12, 2014 1:33 AM

A damaged black Lamborghini registered to Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was found abandoned early Monday alongside the Edens Expressway on the city's North Side, authorities said. Illinois State Police officials said the 2007 Roadster, which had crashed into a light pole, was discovered around 3:15 a.m. on northbound I-94 near the Devon Avenue exit. "(The) registration comes back to Lance Briggs, however we don't know who was driving the car at the time," Master Sgt. Kyron St. Clair said. Briggs contacted the Illinois State Police on Monday, and officers planned to meet with him later in the day, Master Sgt. Luis Gutierrez said. He said he did not have details about when or where the meeting would take place. "He contacted us to discuss the whereabouts of his car," Gutierrez said.

Bears' Grossman Good And Bad In Win Over San Francisco

Jul 25, 2014 6:07 PM

Rex Grossman fumbled a snap and had an interception returned 52 yards for a touchdown. But along with the mistakes came the moments of brilliance that have teased the Bears the past few seasons. Grossman played the first half and passed for 211 yards and two touchdowns, and the defending NFC champions held off the 49ers 31-28 in a preseason game on Saturday night.

Backup QB's Bail Out Grossman, Bears On MNF

May 18, 2014 3:55 AM

Bad Rex was back at his worst Monday night. Not that the Bears needed any reminders of what happens when Grossman goes awry -- even in the preseason. After struggling for most of Grossman's 26 plays, the Bears' backups bailed him out and eventually overcame the miscues to beat the Colts 27-24. "I haven't lost any (confidence)," Grossman said. "I hope the Chicago fans and everyone else hasn't lost any. I'm a pretty optimistic guy. Just because I throw an interception in the preseason doesn't take away from a good camp."

Schaub Unimpressive In Texans' Debut

Feb 18, 2014 9:21 AM

Matt Schaub's first pass for the Texans was for 2 yards. His second one was dropped. This revamped Texans offense sure looks a lot like the old one. Schaub, who replaced David Carr after backing up Michael Vick for three years in Atlanta, had an inauspicious debut going 3-for-5 for 25 yards. But the defending NFC champion Bears scored 13 fourth quarter points, including a 47-yard go-ahead field goal by Robbie Gould with 36 seconds remaining to beat the Texans 20-19 in the exhibition opener for both teams Saturday night.

Patriots Acquire Wesley From Chicago

May 1, 2014 8:35 AM

The Patriots on Tuesday acquired cornerback Dante Wesley from the Bears for an undisclosed draft pick in 2008. The Patriots were thin at the position due to the season-ending knee injury suffered by Chad Scott during practice and the continued holdout of Asante Samuel. Wesley, 28, is entering his sixth NFL season and has played in 71 career regular-season games with two starts for the Panthers (2002-05) and Bears (2006).

Berrian's Value Is Climbing

Jul 12, 2014 7:28 AM

Taking a look at Bernard Berrian's noticeably bigger biceps during a practice break the other day, teammate Ricky Manning Jr. smiled as he squeezed the sleek wide receiver's arm. "Man, look at the new body," Manning said. Berrian is a player defined more by finesse than physique, but he devoted the off-season to a regimen likely to add some Midwestern grit to his California cool image. He followed the same weight-training program Bears linebackers use to increase his bulk without losing his trademark burst. "I am bigger and I lost some more fat and put on muscle," Berrian said. He still weighs only 176 pounds, but pound-for-pound, Berrian is one of the better bargains on the Bears.
