The Cardinals would like to extend the contract of inside linebacker Daryl Washington.
Washington is entering his third season with Arizona and represents an important cog in their defensive scheme.
"He's a very talented player and he has demonstrated that he's the type of guy that we want in our program for the long term," general manager Rod Graves said.
"We're hoping we can get to a point where we can sit down and talk about extending our relationship with him. He certainly is one that we're focused on doing that with."
Washington also would like an extension.
"I certainly want to be here for a long time. This is where I want to end my career, hopefully," he said.

Kevin Kolb Suffers Bruised Thigh
Kevin Kolb bruised his right thigh late in Arizona's practice on Monday and left the field for treatment.
The injury did not appear to be serious, but could be a setback for the Kolbk who is battling with John Skelton for the starting quarterback job with the Cardinals.
Kolb Listed As Arizona's No. 1 Quarterback
On the team's initial depth chart, the Cardinals have listed Kevin Kolb as their No. 1 quarterback.
Kolb, set to enter his second season with Arizona, is listed ahead of John Skelton.
Ken Whisenhunt has not indicated whether Kolb or Skelton has the edge in the competition for the starting quarterback job.
Fitzgerald Unfazed By Quarterback Debate
Larry Fitzgerald is a veteran of eight NFL seasons and almost as many quarterback controversies in Arizona.
This year, the Cardinals will enter camp with Kevin Kolb and John Skelton battling for the starting job.
"I think I was asked more when Kurt and Matt were competing," Fitzgerald said. "This is child's play almost."
If the wide receiver has a preference between the two, he's not expressing it.
"I've been through a couple (quarterback battles)," he said. "I have to focus on making sure I'm accountable because no matter if you (a reporter) are throwing me the ball -- it's probably going to be in the stands somewhere -- I still have to try to make some plays."
Wilson Took Major Pay Cut With Cardinals
Adrian Wilson took a pay cut when he agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Cardinals.
The 32-year-old safety had two years and $14.5 million remaining on his previous contract.
His new deal, which runs through 2015, was expected to involve a decrease that would save Arizona both cash and cap space.
While Wilson has taken a major pay cut, he will have the opportunity to earn every nickel back through incentives.
Report: Cardinals Teammates Prefer Skelton Over Kolb
As the pair of quarterbacks prepare to enter training camp battling for the starting job, a report has suggested that Cardinals teammates prefer John Skelton to Kevin Kolb.
Former NFL linebacker Willie McGinest said on NFL Total Access that he has friends on the Cardinals and that they've told him they prefer Skelton over Kolb.
"Talking to some of my buddies down there, it seems like they're gravitating toward Skelton a little bit more," McGinest said.
Wilson, Cardinals Reach Extension Through 2015
Adrian Wilson has signed a contract extension with the Cardinals.
The new four-year deal runs through the 2015 season.
The safety had two years remaining on his contract.
Fitzgerald Doesn't Want Say In Arizona's Quarterback
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says that Larry Fitzgerald doesn't want any responsibility in regards to who the team uses at quarterback.
"Larry doesn't want input into it," the coach said. "Larry wants the best players on the field to play, that's one thing he's vocal about. He wants to win. That's what we're trying to do."
Fitzgerald Feeling Urgency To Win
Larry Fitzgerald is beginning to feel the pressure to win.
The Cardinals wide receiver knows that he's running out of chances to be a champion.
"Michael Irvin is at my house right now," Fitzgerald tells the Arizona Republic. "And I've had long conversations with Jerry Rice. I see the rings these guys have, and what they mean.
"When it's all said and done, I don't want people to say, 'Yeah, he was a talented guy who put up numbers, but he was never able to win the ultimate prize.' That's where my mind-set is at."
Fitzgerald, who turns 29 next month, has spent eight seasons in the NFL, with one Super Bowl loss to show for it.
"I don't have another eight, nine years to play," Fitzgerald said. "I would love to, but realistically, that's not going to happen. So the window of opportunity is short."
Floyd Gets To Work After Fitzgerald Calls Him Out
Cardinals rookie Michael Floyd is learning that Larry Fitzgerald is serious about working out.
Fitzgerald took to Twitter to call Floyd out on Monday, saying that the rookie had missed three workouts in a row. He questioned whether Floyd really wanted to be a great receiver.
Apparently Fitzgerald calling him out publicly was just what Floyd needed as motivation, because Tuesday Floyd was back to working out.
Cards' Ryan Williams Appears Ready For Camp
It appears likely that Ryan Williams will be ready for the opening of the Cardinals training camp laster this month.
Fitzgerald Has Remarkable Rate Of Caught Targets
