Tua Tagovailoa says his surgically repaired hip feels "10 times" better than it did a year ago when he was preparing for his rookie season.

In his first interview with South Florida media since the Miami Dolphins' 2020 season ended, the quarterback opened up about his first professional campaign.

"Last year, for me, I wasn't as comfortable just in general. I wasn't comfortable calling plays," Tagovailoa said. "The guys that were here last year were phenomenal. I just didn't have the comfortability of checking plays, alerting plays. I just rode with the play, even if I knew it wasn't going to work. I was going to try to make it work.

"I didn't actually know the playbook, necessarily, really, really good, and that's no one else's fault but my fault. Our playcalls were simple when I was in. I didn't have alerts and checks. Where now, I feel comfortable and I can maneuver my way through these things."

The Miami Dolphins have added weapons around Tua Tagovailoa this offseason as the quarterback prepares for his second professional season.

During an appearance on The Joe Rose Show, Brian Flores praised Tagovailoa for getting together with the wide receivers and centers.

“Tua is an important piece," Flores said. "He's been working hard. He knows where he needs to improve. We talk to him about the Year 1 to Year 2 jump. It's a real thing. He's more comfortable."

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Jason McCourty, according to a source.

Miami also released team captain and starting safety Bobby McCain.

McCain was due a $6.4 million non-guaranteed salary this season.
