Saban Turns Down Dinner With President Bush

Aug 7, 2014 5:08 AM

When the White House called with an invitation to dine with President Bush, Dan Marino took it. But the coach of his former team said no. Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Monday that his obligations at training camp took priority over a chance to meet the president. "It was really a tough decision," Saban said. "I feel like my first responsibility is our team. That in no way disrespects the importance of the opportunity I would have loved to have had to spend dinner with the President."

Culpepper Cleared To Play

Jun 10, 2014 12:28 AM

Dolphins starting quarterback Daunte Culpepper has received medical clearance to practice when the team opens training camp Saturday, coach Nick Saban said Wednesday. Culpepper tore three ligaments last October while playing for the Minnesota Vikings. "Daunte will do the same thing in this camp as every other player relative to the workload he is able to manage," said Saban, whose team acquired Culpepper in a March trade with the Vinkings. "We'll try to manage with him as we go through this. We don't hit the quarterback anyway (in practice), so contact is not an issue." It remains unclear as to whether or not Culpepper will be ready for Dolphins' regular-season opener.

Saban Remains Supportive Of Williams

Sep 14, 2014 1:37 PM

Miami Dolphins Coach Nick Saban said the broken left forearm suffered Saturday by running back Ricky Williams in his fifth game as a member of the Toronto Argonauts would not affect his future status with the Dolphins. "We're very supportive of Ricky and the season that he is having in Canada," Saban said in a statement released by the Dolphins. "Hopefully, he will have a speedy recovery, and we feel certain this setback will not affect his future as a football player." Argos president Keith Pelley said that the Dolphins have contacted his organization about Williams' injury. "Their medical people have talked to our medical people," Pelley said. "We're very confident that Ricky will be back. It's just a matter of when."

Argos President Says Williams Will Return

Jun 10, 2014 12:29 AM

According to the Toronto Argonauts, the CFL has not seen the last of Ricky Williams. Williams underwent surgery late Sunday night to repair a fracture to his left forearm. Williams, 29, joined the Argos in May after being suspended for the entire 2006 season by the NFL. Toronto signed Williams to a one-year deal after first getting permission from the Miami Dolphins, to whom Williams remains under contract for two more years. Argos president Keith Pelley said he expects Williams to return to Toronto's lineup this season after sitting out four to six weeks to let the arm heal. "We're very confident that Ricky will be back, it's just a matter of when," Pelley said. "I've not spoken to anyone with the Dolphins but their medical people have talked to our medical people about Ricky's injury."
