Miami's Jeno James Feels Better After Being Taken To Hospital

Jul 17, 2014 6:56 AM

Guard Jeno James was feeling better after being taken to a hospital as a precaution when he became lightheaded and sick to his stomach following practice. "All his body functions have returned to normal," team physician Dr. Gerald Kuykendall said. "He was suffering from gastroenteritis, which contributed to his dehydration." The 320-pound James became woozy Wednesday night after taking part in a two-hour workout in muggy, 80-degree weather. The practice was the second of the day on the third day of training camp. James was in stable condition Thursday, Kuykendall said. "He remained in the hospital overnight to have several precautionary tests, and his condition will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis," Kuykendall said.

Dolphins Ink Schulters To One-Year Contract

Sep 25, 2014 7:10 AM

The Miami Dolphins signed unrestricted free agent safety Lance Schulters to a one-year contract on Thursday. Schulters, 30, was released by the Titans in mid-June because of salary cap considerations. He had played three seasons with Tennessee and had three years remaining on his contract. He had been due a $2.75 million base salary for 2005, and carried a cap charge of $4.2 million. Details of the one-year deal Schulters signed in Miami, where he visited last month with Dolphins officials and coaches, were not immediately available. Depending on the condition of a left foot injury that sidelined him for all but three games in 2004, Schulters could quickly challenge for a starting job in the Miami secondary. The current starter at strong safety, Tebucky Jones, appears set. Current free safety Travares Tillman, however, has just seven starts in five seasons and, while practicing, is still not fully recovered from a knee injury sustained in mini-camp last month.

Wright?s Back Is A Major Concern

May 21, 2014 3:43 PM

The only player taken in this year?s supplemental draft, Manuel Wright, left Tuesday?s practice in tears after being chastised Dolphins coach Nick Saban. However, it is Wright?s back that concerns Saban, not his tears. "We wanted to check his back out; that is part of the issue," Saban said. "We have a protocol and procedure for how we do things around here and sometimes young players don't understand that. As I tell the players, we are going to try and help you in every way that we can to be as successful as you can be, but when you don't do things the way you are supposed to do them, we are going to . . . demand that you do it right. "That's what I did with him (Tuesday) and that's the rest of the story. That's all there is to it."

Ricky Makes Official Apology

Oct 17, 2014 5:12 AM

Ricky Williams officially apologized to Dolphins fans for his abrupt retirement before last season that left the Dolphins reeling, eventually leading to a dismal 4-12 finish. ''There were things about life that I wanted to explore outside of football, and I had never had the chance,'' Williams said. ``I realize by making that decision I affected the team in a negative way and upset a lot of fans. I'm very regretful that people were hurt in the process of me doing that.'' ``I do realize that to a lot of people it comes off as being very selfish. So I do offer an apology to all the people who were negatively impacted.''

Just Another Day In Camp

Sep 25, 2014 2:39 PM

Ricky Williams reported to the Miami Dolphins training camp as planned on Sunday, nearly one year after his official retirement from football. Williams will not be able to play in the first four games of the season due to a violation of the NFL?s substance abuse laws; however, the star running back will likely be allowed to play in the Dolphins preseason games. Williams return to the game comes after a court later found the 1998 Heisman Trophy winner in breach of contract by retiring, and ordered him to repay the team $8.6 million. The team has not yet sought to collect the settlement, and new coach Nick Saban offered Williams another chance to play for the Dolphins.

Former Miami GM Spielman Interviews With Falcons

Oct 1, 2014 6:12 PM

Former Miami Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman, who resigned from the franchise early last month, has interviewed for a position in the Atlanta Falcons personnel department. The title and responsibilities of the job for which Spielman is a candidate are not yet known but, given his tenure and background in the league, the position almost certainly would have to be a prominent one. There may be other candidates for the job as well. In a surprising move, the Falcons last month dismissed vice president of player personnel Ron Hill with a year remaining on his contract. Earlier in the offseason, assistant general manager Tim Ruskell left the Falcons to become president of the Seattle Seahawks. The departure of Spielman from the Dolphins five weeks ago was not unexpected, since there had been considerable speculation that first-year coach Nick Saban wanted to have a personnel chief that he chose, rather than one he inherited. The Dolphins subsequently hired former Seattle and New Orleans Saints general manager Randy Mueller, who served three years as an ESPN.com analyst, to replace Spielman.
