Lions Undecided At QB

Sep 25, 2014 12:34 AM

Jeff Garcia dropped back and perfectly lofted a touchdown pass to Scottie Vines in practice Thursday. The Detroit Lions still do not know whether Garcia will have a chance to do the same in Sunday's game at Cleveland. Coach Steve Mariucci said he was still deciding between sticking with Joey Harrington or switching to Garcia as his starting quarterback. "I'm not ruling out that it could go up to game time," Mariucci said Thursday. "But we probably will consider something sooner than that." After sharing practice time with Harrington for the second straight day, Garcia hoped Mariucci would make his decision well before pregame warmups. "I don't think he should delay it that long," Garcia said. "If Joey is going to start, he needs to let Joey know so that there's not a situation that is left lingering. I think it's important for the offense to know who's going to be the guy out there on Sunday."

Charles Rogers Gets Four-Game Suspension

Jul 23, 2014 1:11 PM

Detroit Lions receiver Charles Rogers has been notified that he is being suspended for four games because he is in violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The suspension could be announced this week unless Rogers appeals, the sources said. Under the policy, Rogers' suspension means he has had at least three positive tests of an illegal street drug. A fourth positive test will result in a minimum one-year suspension. Rogers was unavailable for comment, as was his agent. Rogers was the Lions' first-round choice in 2003, the No. 2 overall player chosen in the NFL draft. That year, ESPN reported that Rogers was flagged by the NFL's medical advisor when he provided a diluted urine sample at the NFL Scouting Combine before the draft. The result placed Rogers in the substance abuse program, which made him subject to random testing.
