Browns, Chargers, Cowboys Could Select QB At Top Of Draft

Jan 31, 2016 1:21 PM

With high picks in the draft, the Cleveland Browns, San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys could each consider investing in a quarterback.

"If you're looking for a quarterback in that top 10, (picks) two, three and four have got to be locked in," Mike Mayock said on Saturday during the NFL Network's broadcast of the Reese's Senior Bowl. "Two with Cleveland, three with San Diego. Philip Rivers is one of my favorites of all-time, but remember they took Rivers when they had (Drew) Brees. And No. 4, Dallas has got to be looking, also."

Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch are considered the top quarterbacks.

"I look at Dallas at No. 4 and as much you love Tony Romo, three years in a row he's not been able to play 16 games," Mayock said. "He's 36 years old. At what point -- you're not going to be drafting that high again -- at what point do you pull the trigger? San Diego, same thing. Cleveland's got to get a quarterback. Philadelphia's sitting there at (pick) No. 13 saying 'My guy might not get to me anymore.'"

Hue Jackson: Browns Need 'To Go Get' QB At No. 2

Jan 19, 2016 12:05 AM

Hue Jackson is in favor of the Cleveland Browns targeting a quarterback at the top of the draft.

"If there is a QB at #2 that is a best fit for our team, we need to go get him. It's my opinion we need a QB," said Jackson.

The Browns are unlikely to keep Johnny Manziel.

Unless the Tennessee Titans trade down, the Browns will have any quarterback in the draft they have at the top of their board.

Cal's Jared Goff, North Dakota State's Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch of Memphis are atop most team's boards at quarterback.

Tony Romo Fine With Cowboys Drafting Quarterback

Jan 5, 2016 11:14 AM

The Dallas Cowboys own the fourth overall draft pick and Tony Romo would be comfortable with the franchise selecting a quarterback.

The Cowboys haven't drafted a quarterback since Stephen McGee in the fourth round of 2009.

Only four other quarterbacks have been drafted in the Jerry Jones era: Troy Aikman, Steve Walsh, Bill Musgrave and Quincy Carter.

"We're going to evaluate everybody and the organization is going to look at who to take and they're going to take the best player," Romo said per ESPN. "If the best player there is a quarterback, then that's what our team needs. Our team needs good players.

"I'm just obviously a player on the football team and I don't have to make those decisions, and I'm glad. My job's is go out and get better and make sure this team wins next year. And I'm going to do everything in my power to ensure that."

Christian Hackenberg Leaves Penn State For 2016 NFL Draft

Jan 3, 2016 12:38 AM

Christian Hackenberg will forgo his senior season at Penn State to enter the 2016 NFL Draft.

Hackenberg announced his intention after the Nittany Lions' 24-17 loss Saturday in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Hackenberg left the game with a shoulder injury.

ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay both have listed the 6-foot-4, 228-pound Hackenberg as fifth-best among draft-eligible quarterbacks and third among underclassmen.

"It was tough," Hackenberg said. "You've invested so much into a place and invested so much into fixing things and making sure it's where it needs to be."
