Bears Unveil $5B Proposal For Domed Lakefront Stadium

Apr 25, 2024 8:37 AM

The Chicago Bears have unveiled a nearly $5 billion proposal for an enclosed stadium next door to their current home at Soldier Field as part of a major project that would transform the city's lakefront.

The plan calls for $3.2 billion for the new stadium plus an additional $1.5 billion in infrastructure.

The team and the city said the project would add green and open space while improving access to the city's Museum Campus and also could include a publicly owned hotel.

"This is not an easy project, but Chicago doesn't like it easy," Bears president Kevin Warren said.

The team said last month it was prepared to provide more than $2 billion in funding toward a publicly owned stadium in the city.

Bears To Unveil Plan For New Stadium In Chicago

Apr 23, 2024 8:30 AM

The Bears will unveil a plan to remain in Chicago, rather than leaving for the suburbs, on Wednesday.

The plan includes a new domed stadium along Chicago's lakefront. A statement released by the Bears on Monday indicates that city officials are on board and will participate in the announcement.

"The Chicago Bears, in collaboration with city officials and stakeholders, will host a press conference on Wednesday, April 24, to announce their plans for a state-of-the-art, publicly owned enclosed stadium, along with additional green and open space with access to the lakefront for families and fans, on the Museum Campus," the statement said.

The Bears purchased land in the suburb of Arlington Heights that they said they would build a stadium on, only to backtrack when they were told the property taxes on that property would be significantly higher than they expected.

The Chicago Bears are all but assured of using the No. 1 overall pick on Caleb Williams later this week.

During a recent appearance on Ryan Clark's 'The Pivot Podcast,' Williams was asked about moving from USC and Los Angeles to the NFL and Chicago.

"Love L.A., L.A. was great," Williams said. "Now that I want to play in one place for 20 years, and chase one guy, [Tom Brady]. I want a place that loves ball. That's all I've heard about Chicago so far, which is exciting for me ..."
