Tampa Bay Selects Bowers With 51st Pick

Jul 22, 2014 9:14 AM

The Buccaneers drafted Clemson defensive Da'Quan Bowers with the 51st overall pick (19th in the second round) on Friday night. Bowers saw his draft stock plummet because of concerns over his surgically-repaired knee. Some pundits rated Bowers as one of the top prospects in this year's NFL draft, but rumors surfaced that he may need surgery in the next few months to clean out his knee.

Talib All But Done With Buccaneers

Oct 13, 2014 4:00 PM

The Buccaneers are expected to release cornerback Aqib Talib, barring a last-minute change of heart. Only the lockout, which prevents teams from making transactions, has prevented Tampa Bay from already cutting ties with its 2008 first-round draft pick. Talib, 25, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a March 21 shooting in Garland, Texas, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

Hovan Accuses Bucs Of Enabling Troubled Talib

Oct 13, 2014 4:04 PM

Chris Hovan believes Buccaneers management has been too lenient on his former teammate, Aqib Talib, and it's time to hold the troubled cornerback accountable for his actions. Speaking Thursday on WQYK-AM in Tampa, Fla., Hovan called on Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominik to cut ties with Talib, who was arrested last month on assault charges in Texas. It was Talib's second arrest since 2009. Hovan believes Morris is an enabler for Talib, who has been involved in a string of ugly incidents on and off the field since the Bucs selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Talib has 15 interceptions in three seasons. "(Talib) has been given too much leeway from Raheem Morris because, I guess, Coach Morris (the Bucs' former secondary coach) has favoritism towards him because he played defensive back," Hovan said. "Again, they are giving this young man way too much leeway. Any other individual would have been cut way before this. But Aqib's got so much talent -- his talent goes through the ceiling. But you can't have these offseason issues and you can't keep covering for this kid because they're saying it's OK for what he is doing."
