49ers Could Still Extend Jim Harbaugh If Team Makes Playoff Run

Dec 1, 2014 10:50 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have already been rebuffed in their extension offers to Jim Harbaugh.

Some in the organization, however, remain convinced that Harbaugh could agree upon an extension if the 49ers finish the season 4-0 and make a run in the playoffs.

The 49ers considered trading Harbaugh to the Cleveland Browns last season.

Sherman: 49ers' Fans Mediocre This Time

Nov 29, 2014 5:15 PM

Richard Sherman was asked if there was anything "mediocre" about the San Francisco 49ers in the Seattle Seahawks' first game against them since last season's NFC Championship Game.

"Yeah, their fans," he said, per The (Tacoma, Washington) News Tribune. "Their fans. Their fans were. Their fans, you know, threw a few jabs. And then someone of them threw a glass bottle at the end, as we were jogging in."

Sherman  also mentioned the Niners fans in his midfield, turkey-filled interview with NBC's Michele Tafoya directly after the game, during which he said 49ers' fans were being "vulgar."

"You know you never have to resort to name-calling and some of the things they said," Sherman continued at his press conference. "It really just help you appreciate your own fans. It helps you appreciate the 12th Man and how classy an organization we have and how classy our fans are -- and how they stay through the whole game regardless of the outcome."

49ers' CEO Apologizes For Performance Against Seahawks

Nov 29, 2014 3:09 PM

Jed York, CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, apologized for the play of the team in their 19-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

"Thank you for coming out strong tonight. This performance wasn't acceptable. I apologize for that," wrote York.

Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers' front office have reportedly been at odds this season.

"I don't know about tweets," Harbaugh said.

"We will do what we have to do as a football team. Set our jaw to doing that."

York's social media critique did not upset any of the players in the 49ers' locker room.

"It's not acceptable," Colin Kaepernick said of the team's play.

“I think he’ll be back,” Kaepernick told reporters.

Kaepernick cited Harbaugh's "resume" as to why he believed he'd return.

Harbaugh spent three seasons at San Diego University before four at Stanford and now four with the 49ers.

Aldon Smith Received Double-, Triple-Teams In First Game Back

Dec 8, 2014 9:55 AM

Aldon Smith was double- and triple-teamed in his first week back in the San Francisco 49ers' lineup. The New York Giants would send two offensive linemen at him, or one lineman and a running back.

Aaron Lynch was beginning to receive double teams before Smith's return.

Justin Smith compared the return of Smith to the return of a No. 1 receiver in terms of how he can impact the game.

49ers Open 21-Day Window For NaVorro Bowman

Nov 20, 2014 12:47 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have opened the 21-day practice/evaluation window for NaVorro Bowman, who is coming back from his knee injury in last year's NFC Conference Championship Game.

Tuesday was the deadline to open said window, otherwise the Niners would have had to move him from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list to Injured Reserve.

The 49ers have 21 days to gauge whether to activate Bowman to the 53-man roster or place him on IR.

Ahmad Brooks Takes Himself Out Of Game After Getting Reduced Snaps

Dec 1, 2014 2:57 PM

Ahmad Brooks took himself out of the San Francisco 49ers' Week 11 win at the New York Giants due to his displeasure with a reduced number of snaps following the return of Aldon Smith.

"We're working through something," Jim Harbaugh said.

At his locker after the game, Brooks declined to comment on his situation.

"I'm not taking questions today," he said. "Maybe later in the week. ... Yeah, we're working through something."

Brooks started over Smith on Sunday but saw much of his playing time split. Also getting plays in the nickel package was Aaron Lynch.

"Honestly, I don't know what happened there," Lynch told reporters when asked about Brooks. "I don't know what the deal was. I love the guy. He's a big brother to me. As far as what happened off the field or on the field, I don't know what happened."

NaVorro Bowman Could Miss Entire 2014 Season

Dec 1, 2014 6:33 AM

NaVorro Bowman could miss the entire 2014 season as he works to return from a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee.

Bowman underwent surgery in February and has been experiencing pain recently.

Bowman underwent an MRI earlier in the week, which checked out "fine," but now it appears his season is in jeopardy. If Bowman isn't cleared to practice by Nov. 18, he won't be able to play the remainder of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers are already without Patrick Willis for the rest of the season.
