Flight From Minneapolis Goes To Hattiesburg
The crafty folks at ProFootballTalk.com are monitoring the flights that come in and out of Hattiesburg-Laurel airport, which is famously home to Brett Favre.
A flight from Minneapolis arrived at 9:11 AM on Wednesday and a departing flight took off at 4:14 PM on the same day.
Favre was released by the Jets this week, which has fueled speculation that he will come out of retirement and sign with the Vikings.
Favre To Minnesota Talk Will Continue Indefinitely
According to columnist Mike Vandermause, the only thing that will prevent Brett Favre from joining the Minnesota Vikings is his torn biceps. If the injury requires surgery, then that would likely end his career.
Minnesota and Favre attempted to unite before last season and with the quarterback now a free agent, there is nothing to prevent the two from coming to terms.
Vikings Sign RB Ian Johnson
The Vikings have signed Boise State running back Ian Johnson, who went undrafted in this past weekend's NFL Draft.
Vikes' Robison Has Olympics In Sights
After taking two years off, Vikings defensive end Brian Robison returned to the shot-put arena Friday in a bid to round into Olympic form, according to ESPN.
"I want to make the 2012 Olympics [in London]," Robison told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
"I'm too talented to give it up, I just can't let it go to waste anymore."
Vikings Aren't Interested In Boldin
The Cardinals are shopping wide receiver Anquan Boldin, and the Vikings have already quelled speculation that they might be interested.
Indications are that Arizona's asking price of a first- and third-round pick is too high for many teams, including Minnesota.
Adrian Peterson Wants To Gain Weight
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wants to add roughly seven to twelve pounds to his frame heading into the 2009 season.
"Now is the time of the year to get down and dirty and really start getting after it," said Peterson, who is currently 218 pounds. "God willing [I will get to] 225, 230 just to see how it feels. Before the season starts I look forward to having my weight up so I will be able to see how it is when I run and cut and do different things like that."
Vikings, Winfield Set To Resume Talks
The Vikings and the agent for Antoine Winfield will continue to discuss a contract extension for the Pro Bowl cornerback.
Agent Ashanti Webb termed the dealings as "intense negotiations" in a text message on Saturday evening.
"We have talked very frequently and are both working very hard at it," Webb said. "We still have some ground we have to cover. ... I would like to get this thing done. I know Antoine would like to get it done. But I can't say at this point there is any frustration or I think it's taken longer than I expected."
Vikings Say They Weren't In Cutler Talks
Brad Childress said the Vikings were not among the clubs involved in trade discussions with Denver for quarterback Jay Cutler, who was dealt to NFC North rival Chicago on Thursday.
"He's a good player, and obviously I don't question his physical skills," the Vikings coach said Friday. "But obviously it will be what he can do in relationship to the team to help the team. ... Are they going to be able to match their offense up to what he can do offensively? I think there's kind of a ferreting-out period."
Report: Vikings Aren't Comfortable With Cutler
The Vikings reportedly won't be among the suitors for Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler because some members of their coaching staff have "reservations" about him.
The Broncos officially placed Cutler on the trading block Tuesday night.
"After further inspection, those reservations apparently didn't stop with the coaching staff. Indeed, there are indications that multiple people in the organization weren't comfortable with Cutler, from all corners of the franchise," the report said. "It's almost unthinkable Minnesota would try to rekindle talks, particularly now that so many other teams are in play."
