Vikings, Williams Agree To Extension
Defensive tackle Kevin Williams, recently chosen to play in his second Pro Bowl, agreed to a contract extension with the Vikings.
"I'm excited to get a deal done and finish my career with the team that drafted me," Williams said in a statement issued by the team.
Vikings, Packers Have "Wild-Card" Thoughts
After connecting on a long touchdown in the Metrodome last month, Brett Favre hoisted Donald Driver onto his shoulders and walked him up the sideline in a fireman's carry.
But it was all fairly meaningless, because it seemed at the time neither team had a chance of sniffing the playoffs.
Nearly six weeks later, the Giants have collapsed, plunging into a general sea of mediocrity in the middle of the NFC. So despite their matching 6-8 records, both the Vikings and Packers go into their game at Lambeau Field on Thursday night with an outside chance at earning a wild-card berth.
Sources: Jackson To Start At QB For Minnesota
During his contracted appearance Monday night on KFAN-1130, Vikings' head coahc Brad Childress said he was still "mulling" the decision.
But two people with knowledge of the situation said Childress already had informed the team that Tarvaris Jackson would start, following up by having Jackson take the first-team repetitions during the closed portion of Monday's practice.
Barring an injury to Jackson, the decision means Johnson almost certainly has thrown his final pass for the Vikings.
Who Will Start At QB For the Vikings This Week?
Coach Brad Childress knows who will start at quarterback for the Vikings on Sunday at Detroit. He's not telling yet.
Childress said Wednesday he has made a decision between veteran Brad Johnson and rookie Tarvaris Jackson, then resorted to gamesmanship when pressed about which player will be under center against the Lions.
"I'm probably not going to share that with you just because I'm not competitively going to do that," said Childress. He said he has informed the quarterback he's chosen.
