Panthers quarterback Matt Moore could figure into Miami's quarterback plans this coming season.
Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne indicated last week that he could have competition for the job and Moore may come cheap.
Carolina has drafted quarterbacks high in each of the last two season -- Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen -- and they also have veteran Brian St. Pierre.
Moore also has ties to Dolphins coach Tony Sparano and general manager Jeff Ireland as both were on staff with the Cowboys when Dallas signed Moore as an undrafted free agent in 2007.

Henne Grateful Dolphins Didn't Draft QB
Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne is grateful that the team didn't draft a player to potentially replace him in last month's NFL Draft.
Henne viewed the decision as a vote of confidence from the organization. However, he knows the job won't be handed to him, acknowledging he'll likely "still have to compete" with an established veteran.
He also shot down criticism that he played scared at times last season.
"I don't think I was ever afraid of mistakes," he said. "There are things I have to improve on, but I'm not going to change the way I play."
Henne believes the system put in place by new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will improve Miami's attack.
"I like it, and I'm comfortable with it," Henne said. "I don't know the whole offense yet, but it's very diverse, and there a lot of things you can add to it."
Dolphins Reduce Salaries Of GM, Coaches
The Dolphins' non-football employees will have their salaries cut by as much as 20 percent because of the NFL lockout, according to The Miami Herald.
According to The Palm Beach Post, team executives and members of the coaching staff will not be excluded.
A source told the newspaper Wednesday that if the lockout isn't over by June 1, general manager Jeff Ireland, head coach Tony Sparano and the assistant coaches will receive salary reductions.
Henne Working Hard To Be Miami's Starter
Chad Henne's future with the Dolphins isn't certain, but the quarterback is working hard to ensure that he'll start for the team next season.
"For me, it was more just being around the guys and trying to be a leader on the football team and showing the guys -- the coaches and teammates -- that I want to be around them and I want to be in Miami," Henne said.
Offensive tackle Jake Long, Henne's teammate at Michigan and with the Dolphins, said the quarterback has organized workouts in an effort to keep the team bond intact until the lockout ends.
"Chad's a great leader, and I was blessed to be able to come down here with him and have a friend when I first got drafted," Long said. "He's taken on that leadership role."
Ronnie Brown Doesn't Rule Out Return To Dolphins
Ronnie Brown still believes he can help the Dolphins.
Miami selected running back Daniel Thomas in the second round of last month's NFL Draft and the belief has been that the team will move on from the tandem of Brown and Ricky Williams.
"I'm open to that," Brown said of a role in the development of Thomas. "I think [Thomas] said he has some work to do as far as learning the running back position. It's going to be tougher for him because of this lockout.
"He's going to have a lot of things to pick up fast. It takes a lot more than just athletic ability to be successful and make this transition."
Dolphins Cut Pay For Employees
The Dolphins have cut employee pay because of the NFL lockout, a person familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
Salaries will be cut 10 to 20 percent effectively immediately for all support staff. The person said the percentage is higher for higher-paid employees.
The Dolphins declined to confirm the reductions, which were first reported by The Miami Herald.
Dolphins Lack Options Aside From Henne
The Dolphins lack options at quarterback other than incumbent starter Chad Henne.
There will be several quarterbacks available when the league year resumes, but Miami appears unlikely to swing a deal immediately.
Mallett Holding Grudge Against Dolphins
Patriots rookie quarterback Ryan Mallett is holding a grudge against the Dolphins.
Apparently, Miami told Mallett's camp that they were going to trade for him.
"They took another guy," Jim Mallett told the Boston Herald. "Ryan said, 'Payback.' He remembers it all."
Mandich To Be Inducted Into Dolphins' Honor Roll
Jim Mandich will be inducted into the Miami Dolphins' honor roll, the team announced Wednesday at the end of a two-hour program paying tribute to the longtime broadcaster and former player who died last week at age 62, according to an ESPN.com report.
Ireland: Dolphins Not Desperate For QB
The Dolphins could still use free agency or a trade to upgrade at quarterback, but general manager Jeff Ireland says the team isn't desperate for one.
Miami's offense ranked 30th in the league last season.
"I think we'll have to look in free agency if we're going to do that," Ireland said. "Certainly we'll look at all the quarterbacks in depth. The [draft] board didn't fall right for us to pick up a quarterback.
"I didn't feel like we were desperate for one and so we didn't adjust our board to try to go after one."
A report on Sunday indicated that Miami was looking to trade into the third round in order to select Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett.
Dolphins Wanted Mallett, Couldn't Swing Deal
Miami wanted to trade into the third round to take Ryan Mallett, but New England grabbed him with the 74th overall pick.
