'Remorseful' Burress Testifies For Grand Jury
Lawyer: Burress To Testify Before Grand Jury
Plaxico Burress, who faces a weapons charge for shooting himself in the thigh at a nightclub last year, will testify before a grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday.
Attorney Benjamin Brafman said he believes it is important for the grand jury to hear Burress' side of the story.
"There are many mitigating circumstances in this case," Brafman told ESPN on Tuesday. "First, the gun was not used in the commission of a crime. The only victim here was Plaxico Burress. And the gun was registered in the state of Florida, which has reciprocating registration agreements in 32 states. My client was under the impression that the same was the case in the city of New York."
Antonio Pierce Facing Indictment
Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is facing a gun-possession indictment in the Plaxico Burress club shooting.
The charges could sideline him for the 2009 season and ultimately put him in jail.
"The DA's office has confirmed that they are going to seek charges against Antonio," Pierce's lawyer told The New York Post on Monday.
Pierce's fate rests with the same Manhattan grand jury as his former teammate, Burress. The top charge the pair faces, felony criminal weapons possession, carries a mandatory 3?-year prison term.
Report: DA Wants Jail Time For Burress
The New York Post is reporting that Manhattan's district attorney wants Plaxico Burress to serve time in prison.
Robert Morgenthau told the Post that Burress, who shot himself with an unlicensed gun in November, was willing to agree to a year in jail, but prosecutors insisted on two.
"We've always taken the position that he's going to have to go to jail, whether by trial or by plea," Morgenthau told the Post.
Roethlisberger Accuser Could Get Settlement
Ben Roethlisberger may have to pay an out-of-court settlement to the woman that has accused him of rape even if he is innocent.
His accuser may have a tough time convincing a court of her claims because she took a year to report anything.
However, she could land a settlement because Roethlisberger stands to lose millions of dollars in endorsements, according to legal observers.
Roethlisberger, 27, said Thursday the allegations are "reckless and false."

Roethlisberger Vows To Fight 'Reckless' Suit
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger vowed on Thursday to protect both his family and his reputation.
"I did not sexually assault Andrea McNulty," Roethlisberger said, adding that Saturday was the first time he even heard of the accusations.
The NFL star said he would "respond to her outrageous allegations in the appropriate forum."

Trial Will Determine Marshall's 2009 Status
The NFL could discipline Brandon Marshall for the same incident twice, depending on how a jury rules next month in Atlanta.

Roethlisberger's Accuser Was Blocked By Hotel In Reporting Incident
In her lawsuit filed last week in Nevada, Andrea McNulty claims Guy Hyder, the chief of security at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe, told her she was "over-reacting" and that "most girls would feel lucky to have sex with someone like Ben Roethlisberger."
McNulty also claims Hyder told her that John Koster -- the president of the hotel - will "personally fire you for starting rumors about Roethlisberger's personal life."
McNulty also claims Hyder told her that Koster would be impressed by the sexual encounter, allegedly saying "Koster would love you even more if he knew about this ... Koster would suck his d*ck if Roethlisberger let him."
In the suit, McNulty claims she assumed the incident would be investigated by hotel security, but Hyder "did not do his job of investigating the assault." McNulty also claims she was "afraid of the consequences of going to police authorities since it was obvious to her that Harrah's and it's personnel ... would side with and support Roethlisberger."
Harrison Accuser Shot Again, Blames Him Again
The man who sued Marvin Harrison, contending that the former Colts wide receiver had shot him last year, was in critical condition Tuesday after being shot seven times in Philadelphia.
Dwight Dixon, 33, told officers that he believed that Harrison was behind the latest shooting, according to a Philadelphia police source. According to the source, authorities are investigating whether Harrison, currently a free agent, is linked.
"Mr. Dixon told officers on scene that he had a dispute with Marvin Harrison," the source said of Tuesday's shooting. "And Marvin Harrison probably hired someone to do this."
Dixon was shot in the arm, chest and stomach while sitting in a rental car Tuesday in North Philadelphia after he had just finished breakfast. Witnesses told police that the gunman, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white sneakers and blue jeans, was about six-feet tall.
