Jets receiver Braylon Edwards has been charged with a misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident outside a nightclub, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The incident, which occurred when Edwards was a member of the Browns, occurred outside the View Ultralounge and Nightclub in Cleveland.
Edwards was accused of punching entertainment promoter Edward Givens, a friend of LeBron James.
"The team was aware of these allegations prior to acquiring Braylon from Cleveland," the Jets said in a release. "He has been cooperative with authorities and we will allow the legal process to run its course."

No Charges Against Cable
Tom Cable will not face criminal charges for his role in a training camp incident involving one of the team's assistant coaches, Randy Hanson.
The district attorney for Napa County, Calif., Gary Lieberstein, announced the decision Thursday.
Cable had been accused of assaulting Hanson and breaking Hanson's jaw during a training camp incident. Hanson told Yahoo Sports during an interview that Cable threatened to kill him during the alleged confrontation and, according to Hanson, knocked Hanson from a chair into a piece of furniture.
Cable previously denied that any punches were thrown during the alleged incident and has said that nothing happened.

Jags Player Accused Of Hit-And-Run
Jaguars linebacker Quentin Groves has been accused of a hit-and-run at the airport on Friday.
Groves, after hitting a man's car, reportedly drove away saying that he was a football player and he had to catch a plane.
Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said it was a "minor accident" and that Groves stayed at the scene "long enough to have to buy his own way to Seattle."
However, the owner of the other vehicle disagreed.
