The Vikings aren't giving him a chance to be their starting quarterback, so Tavaris Jackson is ready to move on. "It's probably time for a change," Jackson told The Star Tribune. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to play up here the last five years. ... (But) I'm not trying to be a backup. I'm trying to go somewhere where I have a chance, and I don't feel like I'd get that chance here. It's time to move on. No hard feelings or anything. It's a business." The Vikings drafted Jackson in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. "Since Day 1, I don't really think I was really welcome here anyways, because nobody really knew who I was, being from a smaller school," said Jackson. "A lot more things probably play into it, too. It's just the way things are. I can't help that."

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN.com said in a recent radio appearance that he thinks the Eagles are looking for players in return for quarterback Kevin Kolb instead of draft picks. His opinion leads credence to the idea that Philadelphia could acquire a player like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in a deal with Arizona for Kolb. Rodgers-Cromartie began to be mentioned in trade rumors when the Cardinals drafted Patrick Peterson in the draft.

Despite all the hype surrounding Tim Tebow and a three-way battle in training camp involving Brady Quinn as well, odds are that the Broncos will hold onto Kyle Orton. Jason La Canfora of NFL.com writes that Orton gives Denver the best chance to win now. "Despite Tebow mania sweeping the country and a segment of the Broncos' fanbase, Orton by far gives the team its best chance of winning games now ... something the Broncos haven't done an awful lot of lately," he writes. "It would take a lot to pry him away (starting in the second-round level), and team officials doubt that kind of demand will be there. If it materializes, the Broncos will listen but I'd be surprised given this unusual offseason if he's not their opening-day starter."

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com believes that Philadelphia's Kevin Kolb is the quarterback most likely to be traded once the league year resumes. "It's go West young man. Most of the people I talk to in the league believe it's a two-horse race between Arizona and Seattle," La Canfora writes. "The Eagles want first-round compensation, and if the market bears only a second and a little something else, then sources say there is a very real chance Philly holds on to him as insurance for 2011. Ultimately, I think they get the first-round pick for him, though. If not, he stays."

Saints running back Reggie Bush has refuted a report that the team allowed him and his agent to shop around for a trade earlier this offseason. WWL.com in New Orleans asked Bush via text if the reports were accurate, and the running back responded: "Lol! Absolutely not!" Asked again, Bush reiterated "for the second time no." The Yahoo! Sports report states that Bush and his agent, Joel Segal, were informed that multiple teams would consider paying the five-year veteran more than the Saints. The report, citing a source, stated that the Dolphins, Steelers, Seahawks and Giants were among the most likely landing spots. Bush and Segal cannot negotiate with any club right now because of the NFL lockout, but the running back said last month that he would like to retire with the Saints.

The Saints gave permission to Reggie Bush back in February to talk to other teams and gauge his value, according to three NFL sources. Bush and agent Joel Segal were told that a number of teams would be interested in paying him well, or at least more than New Orleans is apparently willing to hand out. That is one of the reasons that Bush has made contradictory statements about his future in New Orleans and didn't participate in offseason workouts with Saints players. According to sources, Bush expects to play for another team next season.

Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton would love to throw the football to veteran Steve Smith next season. Smith, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, has been rumored to be on his way out of Carolina. Newton, taking part in Smith's youth football camp on Friday, said he was glad the Panthers took him with the first overall pick because he "wanted to have someone great to throw to." Asked later if he was lobbying for Smith to stay in Carolina, Newton smirked. "Hopefully, he got the message," Newton said.

The Eagles aren't going to tip their hand, but owner Jeffrey Lurie has a positive outlook on the team's future and the moves they may make when the NFL lockout ends. "We're ready to roll when there's a new league year, and we're all very excited both about the opportunities for free agency and whatever other opportunities exist," Lurie said. "We've been ready to roll for a while. We've got a great plan in place, and you never know what you can accomplish, but I know we're going to be both aggressive and hopefully make the right decisions. "It's frustrating to be a team that's poised to make some of the moves we want to make and not be able to. I think we'll be very excited when the league year starts."

The Texans may be looking to help find running back Steve Slaton a new home once the NFL lockout ends. Slaton was a third-round pick back in 2008 and Tony Grosi of The Cleveland Plain Dealer wrote of his value this weekend. "Slaton was a third-round pick in 2008," Grossi wrote. "I would imagine you could get him for a fourth. I'd really examine his fumble problems first, though."

The Redskins have a number of unsettled positions and moves to make once the NFL lockout is solved, but they are unlikely to make a huge splash. Washington is expected to part with quarterback Donovan McNabb and defender Albert Haynesworth and a decision has to be made on veteran receiver Santana Moss as well. "The Redskins used restraint in the draft, trading back several times and adding picks, and could use a measure of patience in free agency, too. Don't expect the team – in an offseason in which previous mistakes Donovan McNabb and Albert Haynesworth will be cast away – to make any shocking or bold moves, although the roster still needs help in a few ways," writes Pro Football Weekly.
