Andrew Luck, Colts Make Progress On Extension

Apr 30, 2016 7:09 PM

The Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck have made significant progress on a contract extension.

Jim Irsay would like a deal with Luck to be agreed upon by the start of training camp in July.

During the NFL owners meetings in March, Irsay said he hoped a "nine-figure" deal would be reached with Luck by July 4.

"Talks are progressing well. We have made progress," said Irsay. "I mentioned Fourth of July before. I don't think that marker is something that needs to be watched as an indicator. We should be able to come to a deal. Until you do, we still have ground to cover. There's no question about that. It's a complicated contract. It's one that has to work both ways to make sure we're able to field a great football team."

Jaylon Smith Drafted No. 34 By Cowboys

Apr 30, 2016 1:31 PM

Jaylon Smith was selected by the Dallas Cowboys at No. 34 overall despite his torn ACL and LCL.

Smith was expected to be a top pick before his Jan. 1st injury.

"It's been the most challenging time of my life, but at the same time, it's the best time of my life, where my dream has just come true," said Smith, who is questionable to play in 2016. "I've been wanting to play in the NFL since I was 7 years old."

The delay in his return to the field is due to nerve damage, but the Cowboys are confident the nerve will refire.

Jerry Jones said the Cowboys targeted Smith with their second-round pick since the start of the week.

Matt Forte Would Be 'Disappointed' If Jets Don't Keep Ryan Fitzpatrick

Apr 27, 2016 8:29 AM

Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets remain millions of dollars apart in contract talks, a stalemate that has Matt Forte concerned.

"I'd be disappointed (if I don't) get to work with him (given that he was here) last year and the good job he did," Forte said on CBS Sports Radio Tuesday. "But at the same time, you have to prepare yourself for the worst or if that doesn't happen."

The running back, who signed with the Jets this offseason, added: "I hope he does sign and come back so that we can continue to hold off the momentum from last year that him and Brandon and Eric and all the receivers and the offense had last year. We can take a step in the right direction in that aspect, continuing on with that momentum that they had last year. It's not all said and done yet, so we're still waiting."

Goodell Attends Rally In Support Of New San Diego Stadium

Apr 24, 2016 11:27 PM

A year ago, with the Chargers not interested in a proposal for a new stadium in Mission Valley, the NFL sought a stadium project the team could enthusiastically support.

On Saturday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell traveled to San Diego at the invitation of Chargers chairman Dean Spanos to attend a rally of about 4,000 fans. Goodell was there to support the start of a signature-gathering effort for a citizens' initiative effort to build a $1.8 billion stadium and convention center expansion downtown, next to the Padres' Petco Park.
