May 2010 - Philadelphia Eagles Wiretap
All-Pro Tom Brookshier Dies At 78
Former Eagles defensive back Tom Brookshier has died at 78.
The team announced that he had cancer and passed away on Friday night.
Brookshier was an All-Pro defensive back who played on Philadelphia's 1960 championship team. He had 20 interceptions in seven seasons with the team.
Banner Creates Doubt About McNabb's Future
Eagles coach Andy Reid has said twice that quarterback Donovan McNabb will remain with the team, but president Joe Banner created doubt on Friday.
"We really haven't had a meeting to figure this stuff out yet," Banner said about the team's quarterback situation.
"Obviously, we have to make a decision at some point. But at this moment, I can tell you we have not laid out a plan or sat down and exchanged different ideas.
"We do have to make a decision on [the quarterback situation]. The decision could be anything from the status quo to some change. I think Andy's comment speaks very clearly to where we're at as it relates to Donovan. There's no point in me trying to elaborate on it."
After placing doubt over McNabb's future, Banner passed responsibility to Reid.
"I understand it's still a valid and viable question," he said. "I don't think there's any need to clarify [what Reid said]. He's the decision-maker. He's the spokesperson. I think he was clear."
Eagles Name Roseman New General Manager
The Eagles have promoted Howie Roseman to general manager.
Roseman was formerly Philadelphia's vice president of player personnel and he replaces Tom Heckert, who left two weeks ago to become the general manager in Cleveland.
Samuel To Wilfork: Pats Don't Care About You
Former Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel has some advice for nose tackle Vince Wilfork on Friday.
Wilfork is waiting to hear of his future in New England.
"I don't think they care about you, in my opinion," Samuel told the Boston Globe. "They didn't care about me. So do what's best for you and your family."
Wilfork is looking for a long-term deal, but the Patriots could place the franchise-tag on him.
Samuel signed a six-year deal with the Eagles following the 2007 season after he endured a similar situation.
"The way they treat people is not something I agree with," Samuel said, "but everybody has their own opinion."
Sources: Jackson To Ask Eagles For New Deal
Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson plans to ask the team for a new contract, according to CSN Philly.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus plans to approach Philadelphia in hopes of negotiating a lengthy extension for Jackson.
He has two years remaining on his four-year, $3.46 million rookie deal.
Jackson finished with 62 receptions for 1,156 yards and 12 total touchdowns (nine receiving, one rushing and two punt returns) in 2009.
Vick Intent On Being A Starter
Sources close to Michael Vick say that the Eagles quarterback is intent on starting for a team in 2010.
The same sources fully expect him to play elsewhere next season.
According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, teams to keep a close eye on include Buffalo, St. Louis, Carolina, Oakland and Jacksonville.
McNabb Still Believes He'll Stay
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb still believes that he'll be with the team next season.
McNabb has been involved in trade rumors since Philadelphia's season ended, but head coach Andy Reid has said that the quarterback will remain with the team.
He told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Wednesday that he believes Reid. McNabb also added, "I don't wanna be anywhere else."
Vikings To Look At McNabb If Favre Retires?
ESPN's John Clayton reports that Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb will be Minnesota's top target if Brett Favre opts to retire.
Clayton added that the Vikings may be willing to part with a second round pick in order to acquire McNabb.
McNabb has a history with Vikings head coach Brad Childress, who coached under Andy Reid in Philadelphia.
Also, Minnesota's quarterback coach, Kevin Rogers, was McNabb's quarterbacks coach at Syracuse.
Could 49ers Make Offer For McNabb?
Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Chronicle believes that the 49ers should offer the Eagles a second-round pick for quarterback Donovan McNabb.
"If you're the 49ers, would you call up the Eagles in March and check to see if you can pry loose Donovan McNabb for a 2010 second-round pick? No way I'd give up either of their No. 1s, but for a No. 2 ... Worth a thought, if Philly's interested," Kawakami wrote.
McNabb's contract expires after the 2010 season, so he'll need an extension, which could lessen his trade value.
Vick's TV Show Will Debut In February
Michael Vick will chronicle some of his life changes as part of a television series that will debut next month.
Vick candidly tells how he became entangled in a dogfighting ring that sent him to prison and temporarily halted his NFL career as part of a 10-part series that will air on BET.
"At times, it's hard to talk about it, but for the most part, if you talk about it and let it all out, it kind of helps put the demons to rest," Vick told The Associated Press on Thursday.
