Raiders Could Have Interest In David Shaw For Head Coach Position

Nov 28, 2023 5:25 PM

The Las Vegas Raiders could have interest in David Shaw for their head coaching position.

Shaw has received NFL interest in the past, but had always stayed at Stanford before his resignation after the 2022 season.

The Raiders parted ways with Josh McDaniels earlier this season while elevating Antonio Pierce to interim head coach.

Raiders Release CB Marcus Peters After 12 Games

Nov 28, 2023 8:33 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders are releasing veteran cornerback Marcus Peters.

Peters watched most of the Raiders' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday from the sidelines.

Peters, 30, was benched midway through the second quarter following a badly missed tackle and was seen having a brief exchange with interim coach Antonio Pierce.

Sources: Jets To Pursue Davante Adams Offseason Trade

Nov 19, 2023 11:48 AM

The New York Jets' search for answers on offense will extend into the offseason, when they likely will revisit the opportunity to acquire a player they have had their eyes on since last summer.

The Jets inquired about reuniting Las Vegas Raiders Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams with Aaron Rodgers before last month's trade deadline, only to be quickly rebuffed.

But the Jets might not be willing to take no for an answer, as sources around the NFL expect that New York will pursue Adams again this offseason.

"That will happen," one source told ESPN. "I think so."

Report: Team Meeting 'Broke' Josh McDaniels Before Firing

Nov 6, 2023 8:23 AM

A contentious team meeting in the days before he was fired, all but sealed Josh McDaniels' fate with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a report.

"There was such a big disconnect with the players there and Josh McDaniels," Jay Glazer reported on FOX. "The players had recently gone upstairs to the owner, Mark Davis, to tell (him) what their problems were."

Eventually an "airing of the grievances" occurred at a meeting between coaches and players, per Glazer, where "players just unloaded on Josh McDaniels, from captain to captain to player to player."

McDaniels had linebackers coach Antonio Pierce "get up and speak on behalf of him" at the conclusion. But Pierce reportedly referenced the New York Giants' old Super Bowl upsets of the New England Patriots as a motivational tool, which offended McDaniels, the Patriots' longtime offensive coordinator.

Word of the discord soon spread to Mark Davis, who preferred Pierce's messaging, per Glazer, and soon fired McDaniels, only to name Pierce the Raiders' interim coach for the remainder of 2023.

Raiders Win In Antonio Pierce's Debut

Nov 6, 2023 12:56 AM

Antonio Pierce said he has had "butterflies" only three times in his professional football life -- before his first game as an NFL player in 2001, before the Super Bowl he played in for the New York Giants in 2008, and on Sunday, before his first game as interim coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

So he went back to basics.

At the beginning of the work week, hours after he was promoted from linebackers coach in the wake of Josh McDaniels' Halloween night firing, Pierce handed out blank sheets of paper to Raiders players.

The thinking? To symbolize a fresh start. The result? The Raiders could use their finest penmanship to write "30-6," the final score of their win Sunday against the Giants, the NFL's largest margin of victory immediately following a midseason coaching change since 2015.

Jets Tried To Trade For Davante Adams Before Deadline

Nov 4, 2023 7:07 PM

The Jets called the Raiders before last Tuesday's trade deadline to see whether there was any way Las Vegas would consider trading star wide receiver Davante Adams to New York, league sources told ESPN.

The Jets wanted to reunite Adams with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers, add another wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson, and send a clear signal that they were doing everything possible to win this season.

Raiders Firings Of Josh McDaniels, Dave Ziegler To Cost Nearly $85M

Nov 4, 2023 7:04 PM

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis demonstrated again this week that he will not let money influence how he operates his franchise.

The firings of head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler and some of the coaching staff will cost Davis approximately $85 million, league sources told ESPN.

Some of those costs will be defrayed by offsets and mitigation, but the firings were, as one source described to ESPN, "an expensive move nonetheless."

Davante Adams: Raiders Needed 'Some Sort Of Change'

Nov 3, 2023 9:02 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders believe they've turned over a new leaf.

The team fired Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler as coach and general manager, respectively, on Tuesday.

"Don't get it confused," Davante Adams cautioned. "It's not a celebration that we have a new coach and there's been changes made. We, obviously, think it was time, one way or the other, it was time for some sort of change. Just to bring a little juice in and revitalize the team a little bit. So, I think that's kind of the mindset we're having, just trying to have fun and enjoy our time in this building because I think as we speak to each other, it's been too much of, this has just been feeling like work too much and not having enough fun."

Adams went on to thank McDaniels and Ziegler for trading for him.

"As I've said countless times, I want to be a Raider," Adams added. "So I want to try to make this work and do everything I can to keep it going now."

Mark Davis: Raiders Were Heading In 'Wrong Direction'

Nov 2, 2023 12:59 AM

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis had given himself the NFL's Oct. 31 trade deadline as his personal deadline to decide whether to make a switch not only at head coach but at general manager.

Davis ultimately fired Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler from those positions Tuesday night, less than two years after he hired them away from the New England Patriots.

"Unfortunately, I had great hopes for Josh and Dave," Davis told ESPN on Wednesday. "It just seemed we were going in the wrong direction. So, with the trade deadline, I just felt it was time to make a change, time to make a move."

Report: Raiders Leaning Toward Aidan O'Connell As Starting QB

Nov 1, 2023 9:06 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders are leaning toward Aidan O'Connell as their starting quarterback against the New York Giants on Sunday, according to a report.

O'Connell, a rookie, already started one game when Jimmy Garoppolo was injured. He didn't play very well in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Raiders fired Josh McDaniels on Tuesday night, replacing him with interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
