Derek Carr: 'No One Thinks Anything Of' Raiders

Jul 21, 2022 9:20 AM

The AFC West is expected to be the most competitive division in football this season, something Derek Carr believes has left the Las Vegas Raiders in the dust.

The Raiders added Davante Adams and Chandler Jones, but the Denver Broncos (Russell Wilson), Los Angeles Chargers (J.C. Jackson, Khalil Mack) and Kansas City Chiefs (JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling) have retooled as well.

"It's going to be fun," Derek Carr said. "No one thinks anything of us, and I think that's what makes it fun is you always have to put the ball down and play the football games."

Carl Nassib Says He Came Out Publicly To Help Kids

Jul 20, 2022 8:20 AM

Carl Nassib says he agonized over the decision to announce he was gay in June 2021.

Nassib was released by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year and remains a free agent.

He told Good Morning America that he "stared at the phone for, like, an hour just looking at it, trying to hype myself up.

"The last thing I said was like, 'You know what -- for the kids.' And pressed post."

Nassib told Michael Strahan he wasn't concerned about reaction from his teammates, reiterating that he "was met with the most incredible support."

"I just wanted to show that it really doesn't matter -- your sexual orientation," he said.

Noting that he had some "difficult times" while considering making a public announcement, Nassib, 29, said he wants to tell kids who might be struggling that "they have support from a massive community of people.

"We are making strides in a positive direction," he said. "It won't be a perfect road, and we just have to continue the course and make sure that we do it from a place of love and not from a place of animosity."

Raiders' Richie Incognito Announces Retirement

Jul 18, 2022 8:43 AM

Richie Incognito has announced his retirement.

Incognito, 39, signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 and played in just 14 games with them because of injuries. He last appeared in Week 2 of the 2020 season.

"It felt like home the minute I got here," Incognito said in letter posted on the Raiders' website, "and I'd gotten this 'bad boy' reputation, but it just fit with the Raiders. They trusted who I was, and they let me play. And I played my ass off just to repay them for the opportunity.

"I love the Raiders organization, and Mr. [Mark] Davis means the world to me. It's why after four teams and 15 years, I'm retiring a Raider."

Incognito was a third-round draft pick of the then-St. Louis Rams in 2005 and also spent time with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

Brett Favre Expects Drop-Off From Davante Adams Without Aaron Rodgers

Jul 5, 2022 8:41 AM

After landing with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, Davante Adams will go from Aaron Rodgers to Derek Carr at quarterback.

Brett Favre expects the wide receiver to experience a drop-off in production away from the Green Bay Packers.

"No disrespect to Davante at all -- zero disrespect. I do think that Davante will make Derek Carr better and, in time, they will be a dynamic duo. Now will it be the duo that Aaron and Davante had? Time will tell," Favre said.

"I think Derek Carr is a very good quarterback, but he's not in Aaron's league yet. He may never be, and that's no disrespect either, but I do think that Davante owes a great deal of gratitude to Aaron and the Packers drafting him.

"That's not to say he's not a great player because he is a tremendous player and we'll see that with Las Vegas. But it's just hard to shift gears, especially from a player as prolific as Aaron Rodgers. I'd be shocked if he had the same year he's had this year. That's not to say he can't do it, but I would be shocked."
