The Giants are focused on signing all of their rookies, and appear to have put a contract extension for Eli Manning on the back burner.
A source close to the negotiations told Newsday that no deal is imminent between the Giants and their franchise quarterback.
Both sides would still prefer to have a deal in place before Manning becomes a free agent after the 2009 season, but the only timeline the source gave Newsday was that something would be reached "eventually."

'Remorseful' Burress Testifies For Grand Jury
Plaxico Burress testified for nearly three hours on Wednesday in front of a grand jury.
He is being investigated on weapons charges against him and told reporters that he was sorry for his actions.
"I was truthful, I was honest, and I'm truly remorseful for what I've done and for what happened," Burress said outside a Manhattan courthouse.
Burress shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November.
Antonio Pierce Facing Indictment
Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is facing a gun-possession indictment in the Plaxico Burress club shooting.
The charges could sideline him for the 2009 season and ultimately put him in jail.
"The DA's office has confirmed that they are going to seek charges against Antonio," Pierce's lawyer told The New York Post on Monday.
Pierce's fate rests with the same Manhattan grand jury as his former teammate, Burress. The top charge the pair faces, felony criminal weapons possession, carries a mandatory 3?-year prison term.
Giants, Jets Have 'No Interest' In Vick
The Giants and Jets have both expressed that they have no interest in signing Michael Vick.
"No," Giants owner John Mara told The New York Post. "On a lot of levels, no."
Jets owner Woody Johnson was also adamant about Vick not becoming a Jet. "There's no interest," Johnson told The Post.
Jacobs: Romo Isn't That Good
Brandon Jacobs took some shots at Tony Romo on Thursday in a radio interview.
"I don't think he's that good a passer, to be honest with you," Jacobs said.
"I'm not a fan of Tony Romo, no. Keep him in the pocket, he's not that good. His luck will be gone sooner or later. If you were to keep Tony Romo in the pocket he's not that effective."
Giants Studying A Number Of Defenses
The Giants are studying a number of defenses in order to keep opposing offenses on their toes this coming season.
"Tom Coughlin does a great job of insisting the coaches do what we call 'research projects,' " Bill Sheridan said.
"We study other defenses in the league and, inevitably, you'll come up with a bunch of other ideas. You can't incorporate them all. There's not enough snaps in a game to run them all. But you do get ideas."
Giants' Boley Suspended For One Game
Giants linebacker Michael Boley has been suspended for the first game of the regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Boley was arrested in May of 2008 and charged with battery after his wife accused him of becoming "too physical" after an argument.
Giants Will Put More Pressure On Eli
Giants general manager Jerry Reese says that the team is ready to put more pressure on the shoulders of quarterback Eli Manning.
"We're going to put more of the onus on him," Reese told the New York Post.
Manning doesn't appear to be worried about taking a greater leadership role with the club, something he has slowly been doing since Tiki Barber's retirement.
"I think you got a quarterback going into his sixth year and ... some young receivers," Manning told The Post Tuesday. "It's my job to make sure those guys are on the same page and my job to be a leader and take control of the offense and the passing game.
"As a quarterback you're always going to be a leader, but now I'm one of the older guys on the offense."
